There is no difference between patenting a hybrid corn variety like a GMO, or patenting the Hass Avocado. The only difference is that if a farmer tries to plant seeds saved from a hybrid corn plant that farmer will quickly be homeless. Not because he was sued by some big bad multi-national seed company but because the farmer's yields will fall sharply if he plants 2nd generation seeds from hybrid corn, and he will quickly go bust because of his own ignorance and folly.
The first hybrid corn seed was developed about 100 years ago by a man named Henry A. Wallace, the most lionized Left Wing American politician of the 20th Century. What Mr. Wallace pioneered became the Pioneer Seed Company and this makes it abundantly clear at least to me that Left Wing radicals from Mayo, to Stalin, to the racially pure NAZIs turn on their own every decade or two.
