Gnats killing birds

This year things are really bad with the bugs. The gnats have blown up across southern LA and i have lost 42 birds. 41 quail and one black bantam frizzled cochin who i loved dearly.

As the quail started dying off i had just read about wood ash containing arsenic if from treated wood. I was convinced i had poisoned my birds and the quail were dying left and right, i lost 10 and 12 a day i had cleaned cages took away all baths gave fresh potting soil and sand iut hoping they could kick back and then i lost that dear little hen. When i lost her i took her to LSU for a necropsy the resulta came back today and "buffalo gnats" are responsible for the losses. Spray everything with premetherin. These blow up will last a few wks until the temps are 85 and above for more than 4 consecutive days
Gnats killing chickens? I’ve never heard of buffalo gnats. I will definitely have to look that up.

I just spent an hr and a half outside after putting my human littles to bed. Gnats are gone for tonight and i treated every bit of my yard for tonight so any of them here should be dead. Going to do the coops and pasture and one neighbors yard tumro, the other at least the backyard has to be cut. no sense in spraying too much if its waist high jungle, altho i did splash a fair amount that way. Used 2 gals and there shouldnt be anymore death here. It should be good and dry by AM ill set the birds out and do the insides of the big coop and the smaller cages. The A frame will have to wait to the next day their turn to range again.

Well im not sure if you know i have twin two years olds and a one yr old human children So to begin w taking them shopping is Tough now days the boys are not content to jus ride in the cart anymore. Plus then mommy misses what she calls her "hour of bliss" which is naptime cuz theyll sleep in the truck So i kind of had to wait on DH to get home to watch the children. the birds still didnt seem bothered since the vanilla treatment. When i got there the permethrin shelves looked like this

Which ive had before but cannot locate Anywhere. I didnt spray any birds directly just in case but i soaked the yard with the knowledge it is against the law to use this in this way thats not directed on the package.

It sucks but i Had to do something this is all they had and wont get delievery again til tuesday. Litterally everyone is having these troubles. i ran into another guy at the empty shelves tryn to treat his yard for his daughter's bday party today. I happily sent him to the human things away from the livestock things.

Do u think i screwed up again?

It was real cool last night still only 66 when i woke up at 9. I wait til the littles wake me up and today thank goodness it was late cuz i kept em up later than usual after late naps where DH watched them. They wouldnt be moving around too much just yet anyway the testll be about noon til three. Still no more deaths.

No you didn't screw up. Permethrin is permethrin...no matter what bottle it's sold in.
This bottle you got is just a stronger concentration than what's normally recommend for birds.
Just means you use less if you are spraying it on them. It's fine for the yard.
