I believe this only shows if you have currently unrread posts in that thread.
This is what I have found. If I read all replies then go back to the thread before any more posts are made the “go to first unread” box is not visible.

Oh I get what you mean, but if you accidentally clicked on the last page then the UNREAD thing goes away.Yeah, I know what you mean about that, but wasn't the case this time. I had to scan through a lot of pages to find where I left off.
