So welded wire is fine with a strand of electric....

What about cattle fence(woven wire) 48" high. Same thing quick strand of electric and all will be good?

Julie, you said goats will go through a horse fence.... I recently acquired two pygmy's. (1 week ago) Right now they are fenced with welded wire 36"(I believe) fence. Not real heavy duty. Are you telling me this will not hold them? Mine are only 2 months and 3 months old.

What kind of fence is best.

My mistake - I was thinking of the electric wire horse fence ... I would normally refer to the fence on the pic as welded wire fence. So I didn't realize that's what you had.

Anyway - the welded wire fence will work wonderfully as long as they don't get it to loose by pushing on it. I've used the welded wire fence before for my goats, but I had it "framed" so it was connected and could be pushed loose.
Not sure how the stakes will work ... they might work if the goats don't pop them out. Guess you could try it, but would have to keep a watchful eye incase they do pop them out.
For a nice permanant fence ... I would run a board along the bottom of that, and use posts for the corners/edges of the fence ... to sturdy it up, and keep it from getting really loose. Cause they will rub on it.

Currently I use "Goat Fence" from Tractor Supply. It comes in 330 feet for $236 or something in that area. Then we used locust posts for our corners/endings.

I'll get some pictures and post them in a reply ... might take me a few minutes, but I'll get them on here to show you.

I think with a strand of electric wire on the inside of the fence, maybe 12 -18"???? off of the ground, you'd probably be ok with pygmies and/or nigerians. And like Julie suggested, the wood across the bottom works well, too. More expensive that way, though, if you have a decent amount of space to fence in.

All of my fencing for my goats is the woven wire on the inside of wood fencing (4 boards, one very close to the ground) or 5-strand high-tensile electric. The electric only would not be good if you have a problem with dogs/predators--something could slip through. Yes, they'd get shocked, but they'd already be inside the fence. And...if you have any smart goats, they'll figure out how to go through the electric when they want to (I have a doe that stands next to the charger and listens for the "clicks". Then she jumps through the strands between electric pulses and escapes without getting zapped.
