goat is getting better

hey yall. just got home from work. what a late day. almost nine pm.

someone has said about probios but i didnt' get that it was a paste somehow. will look for that. thought it was probiotic like a people brand vitamin.

if she is into it, i might even let her breed sooner. she was hugging the fence toward the billy past couple of days. maybe i should give in. i don't know. will give more consideration. he's actually pretty gentle in his mating, but this will be her first time. so was kinda worried if she got skittish that she might hurt her leg more by accident.

my friend says i am destined (uh, doomed?) to open some kind of a wildlife rescue one day. oh, my.

i said, well, can we have one half where we eat them and the other side where we genuinely rescue them? i know the name. the fat lady's funny farm.

goonight and thanks for writing.

Oh, gosh - please don't breed her! Pregnancy is SO hard on a body - the doe will give everything she has to that baby and not heal well. Just wait until she's all healed up. Of COURSE she flirts - the desire to mate is strong but she won't suffer having to wait!

hi again.

her leg is still healing, but wound is a fifth the size it originally was and not deep. just on the surface now. still some blood, but she seems to prefer to just have me let it be so i am.

this morning, i was rubbing her neck under her collar and found a tiny bit of what might be some leftover dried blood from puncture wound. i started to look for more, but she got such a ptsd thing going that i just let it be.

she is getting fat again! eating really, really good. and her mother is gaining weight too, as she had stopped eating quite as much when her daughter was hurt. maybe they need each other to competition eat like hogs sometimes. don't know. or sympathy. who knows.

regardless, her face looks much better and she is spunky.

yeah!

Yep I know Kate from a different forum and I have a 3 legged goat ..she was born with raidial nerve damage and she is fine. It is her front leg that is bad and she has raise a set of twins and 2 sets of triplets. I decided to not breed her for a while and let her rest a while. Sara (the goat) is my favorite doe and she is a lap goat too. I wouldnt breed her till she is 100% well and over the injuries and trama from the attack. I agree there with Kate. I hope she continues to heal well and yes you need to give her some Probios paste or powder for her tummy. With antibiotics it can throw off her PH balance and cause stomach problems. Alot of antibiotics kill the good bacteria and the bad too. That is why some are saying yogurt but the probios will return her tummy to the better and they seem to like the taste. The powder you can put on her grain and she will eat it. I wouldnt give her too much corn as it will cause her to get really fat real quick and thats not good for her.

Just a thought...Im not trying to tell you what and how to feed her but I have had goats a long time. Just trying to help. GOod luck and I wish you the best for her.

that's okay. she doens't get corn regularly. that was just a mama's trick. she mostly eats hay, browse and then her favorite are the branches i bring for her.

a lady who had goats forever told me to give her yogurt, i think for same reason as the probios. but i couldn't get her to eat it no matter what. her rumen seems okay. she does her chewing thing regularly. i will get some and keep it on hand for in case.

i am so glad to hear that your goat does well. i just kept telling myself that if she lost it, it would be like a three legged dog. i was especially worried about the throat wound but that actually healed up quicker. probably because less movement, etc. i had put tea bags on that, the tannins will stop bleeding and prevent infection. if there'd been any oak trees around here, i would have used the bark or the oak apples. works ten times better. i was only able to get the spray from the store on her leg and even then she'd freak. she would just freak out. OH. for next time, i will put a tea made from tannins in a spray bottle. duh.

my neighbor is complaining about the boy goat freaking out so much, but i guess it will just have to pass. (his bleating) she definitely lets him know she's interested.

anyway. thanks for everyone being here and listening.
