I hope you can get another vet to do a band. It's not so much the pain of general anesthesia but the goats alot of times never come back out of it which is sad. And if they do it's days of disorientation for them with no appetite etc which can cause all sorts of secondary problems. With a quick banding it's a few moments of discomfort until the lack of blood to the area makes it numb, then not long after they are usually back up and forget all about it. Later it turns hard and flat and falls off in a few weeks.
I'd definitely get them separated asap just in case he did miss her the last few times around, heats come around every 18-21 days and sometimes they don't even let you know they ARE in heat. Some are just so quiet about it. So every day he's with her the more likely she'll get bred if she isn't already.
Best of luck!

Yep banding isnt hard to do as I just banded the last 3 I had to do ...took maybe 5 minutes to get them done and they have hushed now...Yep food or a bottle if they are that young makes them forget...All you have to do is make sure the testicles are way down in the sack and place the band as low as you can go with them still in the sack and make sure you dont get the teats in the band. It takes about 3 weeks for it to fall off and so much easier than anestisia...Like Golden said some wont wake up from it.. are there any other goat owners around...I bet they could show you how to get it down or do it for you...Good luck

Can you find someone else with goats in the area and see if they will do a trade?

I just had someone come over to buy pheasants and low and behold they raised goats. I had some questions for them, and was talking to them about the vet I was planning on using. Long story short, they said he wasn't a good vet, they banded the two boys, gave them some wormer, and gave me the name of some better vets. They didn't ask anything for it, but I gave them a guinea since the husband was interested in ours.

yeah..i can ask around about local people that have goats..i think i saw an ad for some in the next town over..good idea!..thanks...

I was told my older boy was 8-mths, and he had a pretty big set

(at least to my eyes). They weren't concerned; it took a little wiggling but they got them in the band just fine. Bert actually took it better than Ernie (5mths); Ernie had to lie down for a minute after the 'procedure', but they said that is normal. They are both as spry as ever two days later.

okay..thanks alot..appreciate it..
