My daughter just texted me this picture of her pygmy goat's eye. They were out of town yesterday, and just discovered his eye was like this today. He lives out in a pasture, has a nice shelter, and the only other animals with him are his sister, mommy and aunt and several free range chickens and a turkey.

She doesn't think he has poked his eye on something and blinded himself, she says it appears to be some kind of a "growth" on the outside of his eye.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Thank you all in advance for any help.

Matthew, I don't think he can see out of it at this time.

Sunny, I didn't know there was another forum called that, thanks for the link. I just finished registering as a new user and because I'm new they are afraid of "spam" and they refused to post my pic.

It looks like some kind of growth inside the upper eye lid tissue. I would get a vet to remove it etc.... As it moves over the eye it scratches the lens and can cause vision impairment , and of course it must be uncomfortable.

I am no goat person but to me it looks like a Cherry Eye. I had a dog that i rescued with this problem and they had to put her under and remove the inflamed gland and she got eye medicine for a while after but it never reoccured.

Cherry eye is inflamed tear ducts/glands so i am not sure if it can happen it other parts of the eye(it's usually in the front corner).
