Goats?

So I don’t have Nigerian goats but do raise boer goats currently I have have a heard of 30 mostly they are nanny’s and kids but I also have a billy and a few weathers! They are amazing I love each and everyone of them they are very sweet and the babies are so cute to watch play together feeding time is the best and I love giving the treats though out the day! My youngest son is 4 and loves the goats and they are tame enough he hugs and loves them all time they just eat it up lol I added photos of my buck and weathers and my newest set of twins View attachment 2167923
That’s so sweet that they let your son play with them!!

I forgot to mention that goats both young and mature are very much susceptible to predation by coyotes or dogs so they will need to be kept in a securely enclosed area. You are probably already aware of that but just wanting to make sure to share that. Coyotes are the reason I no longer have sheep or goats.
Yea we are aware. My dog keeps them away.

And thank you for all that information.

Your goats are beautiful! Its looks so peaceful there.

I also have a jersey steer he is so sweet just curious how old is your jersey and is it a pet for food or milk?
That's a handsome boy! My girl is 13 months and I got her with the idea of milk. I am worried about having a boy calf as I dont know if I have enough room to keep him, and I couldn't bear to sell him if he would become meat. I am researching AI sexes sperm to increase my chances of a female. Jersey's are so sweet and affectionate!

As previous ppl have said you do have to watch out though if you have a mature male our buck is friendly most of the time but does get moody we have separate areas for the nanny’s/does and kids and the buck and weathers
Good words of wisdom and advice here from multiple people! The best bet would be to get same gender, young goats at the same time. That way any hierarchy movements would be among goats that already know eachother. It would happen more naturally with less long term issues.

They really are and I love having him we are lucky that we have plenty of room for him I wasn’t even planning on having any cattle but a friend who is a cattle farmer gave him to us as a bottle calf bc his mom abandoned him and they were going out of town so couldn’t take care of him one of the beat choices I ever made lol

Lots of folks utilize AI breeding for their cattle and especially in the dairy industry. We used to have some AI work done with our beef cattle, and when I started raising dairy calves on nurse cows we AI bred some to Jersey bulls. Our local AI tech was able to get some Jersey straws of some younger/new unproven bulls less expensive than popular older ones and it was just fine for what we wanted. You may have already looked into this but I would advise you to contact some AI techs or company representatives in your area to see what services are available. I would also advise against acquiring a walking Jersey bull or bull if any other dairy breed. They can be extremely aggressive.

Thanks so much! I think I will do just that. Right now our boy is also 13 months also!
