I am trying to feel blessed by the good things In my life, but it’s getting tough, as several of my ducks have been unwell recently.

i have a sweet Welshie who is in her last 2 weeks of recovering from vet bumblefoot surgery. I now have a khaki named June with a bumblefoot that Baytril is not working on. I’ve got the epsom salts, vetricin, vet tape, neospin on the handy, but she doesn’t have a big black bumble core that I could try to ply out.

I’ve made an appointment with the faraway vet for Friday for June and I imagine that she will also need surgery.

NOW...today I have a 3 year old khaki girl that is incredibly weak. No injuries, not walking well. I gave her about .03 cc of B12...it was a rush job and I didn’t have time at the time to re-read the sticky thread on niacin. I just hope she makes it through the night.

I pride myself on really working hard on caring for my beloved ducks, but unfortunately I only have support here. My husband hates the ducks.

My vetinarian is about an hour away, and I cannot drive highways anymore as I get anxiety attacks anytime I try. My husband really hates having to drive me to the vet with a duck.

Sadly, on Friday, I also have to put down my 17 year old cat.

I love this forum and I read this every morning early after I take care of my pets.

God bless everyone and thank you for letting me rant.

I'm so sorry. I'm not the wisest but just remember that things will get better. No matter how bad things may seem at the moment good things are to come. We all go through bad times in our life but we just have to push through and have faith in life. It's okay to be sad sometimes but only you can make yourself happy. Wishing the best of luck to you ❤

I'm so sorry for your tough time right now. Sorry for the loss of your cat. You're having several discouraging things happen all at once - that's so hard. I've been there and vented the same thing on this forum. I'm sure you do take the very best care of your ducks. I know I do my best and love my ducks, and I've still had so many problems in the last 6 months. Is there any chance you want to post pics and have your virtual friends help you with the bumblefoot surgery so you don't have to drive? Either way, I hope you feel supported by your fellow duck-lovers on BYC.

Hugs and prayers for you ... :hugs:hugs:hugs
Seventeen? Wow! That sounds like a well-loved kitty! I know it's hard, but there definitely comes a time when we know it's best . Hugs all over again or you!
Look closely at June's foot. A bumble doesn't have to be big and black, Depending on what caused it in the first place, the coloring may be close to her natural foot color. Look for a little"seed" - small and hard and likely a bit raised - like a tiny, hard pimple.
What are you using for bedding? With two bumbles close together, you may want to look for a probable cause. Gravel points are frequent culprits, as are stray splinters. Oneof our 4Hers had a lot of bumblefoot issues until she stopped using shredded paper in the shredded paper to soak up muddy spots. It seemed like a perfect solution for awhile - absorbent and completely bio-degradable. Then she found a stray staple caught in the web of an older hen. No more shredded paper; no more staples; no more bumblefoot, just muddy, happy ducks!

Thank you so much!
Yes, it looks like a small pimple, but I’m seeing some raised inflamatory above her foot. The antibiotics seem to be worthless in this case.

My ducks free range, but their nighttime home is a small barn. I clean wet and poopy straw out every single day. I will certainly look for anything sharp.

Oh my gosh...a single staple can cause that much harm ?

I am so sorry you are having such a tough time with your beloved pets. You sound like an absolutely wonderful caregiver. Please take a minute and tell yourself that you are awesome. And may I also prescribe a nice scented Epsom salt bath and some pecan caramel turtles. ( For you not the hens) My husband tries to be supportive most of the time, but sometimes when I need help with the chickens I just have to look at him in the eye and say, "I get so much joy from watching these chicks play." That little reminder seems to soften him enough to come help out. We had to bath an old Barred Rock twice this month. ( Hen was named Black Beard Gray Beard by my granddaughter,) my husband said , " I H A T E the smell of a wet chicken!" I said, "But it is Black Beard Gray Beard, he knows she is one of my favorites so he helped. It is hard when the pets are sick and you feel like you are also annoying your husband on top of it all. - Hugs. Let us know how you are in the morning.
