Ok, my chickens were all just fine until last night I noticed my two La Fleche pullets weren't coming out to say hello. 1 was in the coop acting weak and the other laying in the corner. Everyone else is fine, it is just these two so far.

I think he said these girls were born in April, so they are not very old. I've had them for weeks now, no problems at all.

Eating chick starter/grower, medicated

Water is from the house, house gets it from the well, no city water

pine shavings for floor (just replaced recently)

they have a run, but there is nothing in it that could be a problem that I know of.

the roo that I have is fine and dandy, as are my other birds.

symptoms.... one refuses to get up and is now breathing through her mouth. Alert for the most part, not eating.

the other, can't walk right, panics and flaps around from time to time, alert, dk. green poop, attempting to still eat, though not well.

no other symptoms.

The only thing I can think of is that they have eaten something they shouldn't have.... they are much greedier than my other birds. Though I do not yet know what it could have been. I have some scratch I give them as a treat..... will throw out in case it is contaminated. All of the food is new and fresh as of 2 days ago.... should I replace it? All the others are fine.

Will clean coop and replace bedding, etc. Maybe I have overlooked something?????

Going to get meds for them.... what should I buy? Going to TSC.

Hmmm... It sounds like maybe they might have worms. I'm not an expert and maybe someone else can tell you different, but that would be my first guess.

The wormer my feed store carries is called Wazine 17 for turkey, chicken and swine, for treatment of roundworms. Active ingredient piperazine base (present as a sulfate)

Is this what I should give them??? when is too young to worm? I was under the impression that you worm when everyone is at least 4 months or something. Don't ask why that's my impression... was just stuck in my head, is probably all wrong.

What if it's not worms? Will worming them now make it harder for them to recover??

Ok, I see on the bottle it says 4-6 weeks

Guess I had months and weeks mixed up. So, will I need to separate my chicks then? They are only 2 weeks. Will it harm them?

How old are they? How long have you had them and at what age did you get them?

You could try adding some food grade DE to their food and crush up some raw, hulled pumpkin seeds for them to eat. Those are two natural wormers that shouldn't affect anything. I wouldn't start an antibiotic just yet though.

not really, it stays cool because they are in the shade mostly. A lot of times they just hang out in the coop instead of the run. And, except for the occasional handful of scratch in the evening, no corn.

Well, I haven't mixed DE in the food recently, but I have since I've had them. I think they are 3+ months... I'd have to go back and look or get ahold of him and ask. They can't be too much older or younger than that. The La Fleche roo is fine.

Plus, I can't really get them to eat food, much less pumpkin seeds

The one I am afraid may not recover, though the other seems much better and I am hoping will make it.

I would pick up a broad spectrum dewormer and follow the directions for chickens, add a little to the water. See if that helps, It doesn't hurt.

8 gold laced Wyandottes, 5 black sumatra, 6 partridge cochins, 5 red jungle fowl, 2 blue laced polish, 3 buff laced polish and 28 chinese ring necked pheasants

I spent all of last night reading other posts about similar illnesses....... am thinking maybe Botulism? Hoping it's not Mareks

Possibly worms???? No lice or mites, I check constantly for them. I haven't seen any tumors or blisters associated with the other diseases that match the symptoms... so I don't know
