Going into the backyard with geese....

I understand fully what you are saying. I only get young Livestock. All the Kids that are around them where also put on the farm from day one. LOL. The kids grow up with everything. I've got a 6 yr old nephew that has helped pull Goats at birthing time. The 3 yr old is the one that just picked out a pair of Whites.
Your point being City kids my get hurt. I agree. Gotta know your kids and your animals. I've got a few animals that tease.
Yeh I don't leave little ones, -5 but around here a 5 year old's already got it figured out.
The animals are all very gentle They are around people off and on all day. So yeh I wouldn't throw even a Teenager that never been around animal's in with the geese, Big Daddy would nail his *%&

I SO appreciate every single comment on here.

First, if I get any, I will be waiting until spring, because I WILL NEVER make snap decision....this is such good advice, Olive Hill, and one I take seriously. Reading this forum has not been my only source of information....my biggest worry is that I will regret getting a goose, let alone TWO, because I am not a disposable pet owner. Nothing bugs me more than to look in the classified and see HUNDREDS of animals for sale for one reason or another. In the most popular classifieds listing of where I live, there are almost 500 listings for Poultry and Gamebirds, and a whopping 3500 listings for Dogs. I will not be one of those people, so I have been reading everything I can get my hands on.

My kids, in the spring, will be 9, 11, and 14, so I don't really have little kids, but they are still young, so I want to do what is best. Not only that, my kids are very respectful of animals, and they would not tease ANY of my animals, of this I am 100% sure of.

I have a neighbor who has a bunch of different animals in her yard and we visit her alllllll the time. Her boy turkey......oh boy.....we stay CLEAR of him during mating season. We dont' go out there without protection, that is for dang sure!!! She has ducks, turkeys, geese, and chickens running all over the place, so I have gotten to observe her animals. She commented quite a while ago, before I even thought about it, that I should get a couple of geese.

I am taking all comments to heart, and I want you all to know I SO appreciate it!

Thanks again!!

With your Kids ages and thier experience with animals already I wouldn't anticipate any major problems. Get some little goslings and let the kids raise them.
