Its no longer a pond its just a puddle. its around 4' in diameter and 2' deep with a little stream to the surface where they are trying to go. There is also a little puddle 2'x8" that has about 20 goldies. My legs are in so much pain from trying to go through 5' of mud. There are trying to swim up on land. I felt so bad for the ones I could not get to.

Comets, feeders, etc... cannot be kept properly in a tank. I'll repeat. They cannot be kept properly in any sized tank that would fit in your house. They would be better off having a quick death to that. Fancy goldfish can be kept in a tank but you should start with 30gallons minimum for 1 and then add 10gallons per fish. A full grown fancy goldfish in a 10g tank would definitely not be enough, nor 2 in a 20, or 3 in a 30. Way overstocked and they would suffer the same stunting and slow death as the comet being put in any size tank. A 55 though will hold 3 well. 30 for the first and 10g each for the other 2 plus a little extra room.

Duckweed is actually one of the best nitrogen using and oxygenating plants but it is called a weed for a reason.

If you add it you'll never get rid of it. I'm not sure what aquatic plants grow well in your area so I can't really suggest anything else.

Thanks for the help. I have a 55 gal but the gecko uses it. Guess they can stay in there pond next to the walkway. It will be over 1,000 gallons lol. I cant finish the pond since its pouring and lightning but it will be sunny tomorrow. I went to check on them and there swimming around

This so sounds like something I would do!!

I had a "feeder" goldfish (a comet) who survived being fed to my water dragon (He was so good at evading him he got too big for the little lizard to eat!) so of course, I was attached to him! I moved him into his own tank and I had him as a pet for 5 or 6 years! (It all ended when I was on vacay and had a power outtage...

)

Anyway, he was pretty darn big and he did fine in a 29 gallon tank with an under gravel filter and monthly siphonings (with a gravel vacuum).

Anyway, BIG pat on the back for helping these little ones out... I can't wait to see pics!!

Oh, and as for the frog... They absorb anything that touches their skin directly into their bodies, which is one of the reasons that amphibians are the first thing to go when there is pollution in a water body.

Oh, you might want to get some slime coat replacer (I think they call it stress coat?) for the goldfish since you were handling them and might have rubbed some of their slime coats off. This will help protect them from disease... especially with all the stress and strangeness they've been going through!!

I have to hit up the pet store later for the slime coat. I know I removed alot of there coat because most of them was caught with my hands. They are very active now. Since they where in a pond should they be fed regular flakes or worms and other bugs?

I never really had frogs. Just the small bulls in my little pond. I always had a saltwater tank and a few years ago I had a freshwater tank but I sold everything when the tank kept leaking (the one the gecko is in now).

Keep in mind, the goldfish will eat any vegetation you put in their enclosure ...duckweed, too!

I've had the same two "feeder" goldies since '99 ..both are pushin' 7 or 8 inches now ..and reside in a 40g. I feed them every other day.. or less ...and do weekly maintenance PLUS the massive filtration that is working 24/7 to keep their water parameters pristine.

Thanks. I will ask on craigslist for duckweed. They are still a bit skittish when I go near so hopefully in a week or 2 they will be fine. I just flushed out the holding tank to get more oxygen in there and clean water. I found a few dead shiners (minnows) and 1 dead goldie but the rest are doing good. I forgot to tell you that I caught about 10 tads and the big frog found a new home. This guy took him at his huge lake because he has alot of mosquitoes. Hopefully these goldies will live for a few years because my mom is selling me her 11 acres and in the back there is a creek. I want to make a pond about an acre in size and have the creek flow in that. I also want to get koi in there later down the road. I have to wait for my mom to pay the bill in order to use her old phone so that will hopefully be later on.

ETA: The phone is trying to work again. The backlight is flashing and the buttons are lighting up. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow it will work again. If anyone is willing to part with another verizon chocolate please let me know. I have grown attached to it and this little phone is a champ! It has been dropped over 100 times and went under water for an hour and its still works... well sort of.

Someone recently mentioned to me ...they put their wet cell phone into a bag of rice and let it sit ..as the rice will absorb the excess moisture.

Ask your Mom for some rice ..uncooked, that is ..and give it a try, maybe?

I am trying it now. The heat from the battery was making the water condense and go on the key pad. I got her old cell working now but looking for another chocolate or maybe the voyager. I cant believe it turned on though.
