Gold Laced Orpington- For Learning and Sharing

Pics
What I have noticed, which I had forgotten that it occurred with the parents, is that the Greenfire x Greenfire chicks the females had a horn colored stripe on the bridge of their beak when they were very young. It went away of course and evened out. Didn't remember it until I saw it again with these little ones. If the one's with the stripe across their beak turn out to be girls, now that would be nice. The Greenfire x Heirloom Orp chicks don't have this trait - and I know one is a pullet.
My little singleton may have to spend some time at the Ritz. She will not be quiet even with knitted toy to snuggle with. It's going to be a long week.

Have you kept records and photographs of wing tips at 24 and 48 hours old? That might be something to record too. Some breeds at 24-48 hours old have feathers coming in and the females tend to have longer even growth and males tend to have slower uneven growth. It does not last long. Same with sexing with tail feathers. At two- three weeks females tail feathers are longer and even ..males are short and uneven and at times nonexistent.
I have never kept records as far as sex goes. For some reason it is not important to me till pol. It seems I always end up with enough hens....So far.

The feather sexing did not work with the Greenfire line. I ended with a Sweetie Pie and Sugar that were boys. The chick that feathered in the fastest with the prettiest tail is Mad Max

Where did you get the breeding stock? They're the cinnamon ones, too. They're my favorites.
Thank you so much!! See the blue one? Guessing you can tell which are Gold Lace Blue & Gold Lace Black at hatch? Wonder if it will get harder to tell blue from black as they grow? I was thinking the cinnamon ones are quite dark too, but I'm looking at them with an amateur eye...so much to learn. Our stock is from Marc. Now the question is whether to cross with our blacks or get some unrelated GLO's? If we cross with black do you know what we'll get... 50/50 black & GL or black with GL gene?

The obvious answer is to get a K from Dee that has the black /green genes....either by Rockstar or Max.
