Hey y’all! So I have two 2 month old Welshies......... I’m not at all good with genetics and colors and all the confusing stuff. Anyways I was wondering if anyone could tell me if my Welshies are gold or silver? Or one of each? Thanks for the help.

This is JJ
And the one below is Luna. ( please ignore my annoying Blue Swedish who follows them everywhere)

I believe they are both silver (the bottom one for sure). Look at the color of their speculums (the colored patch on the wing). If it is blue, they are both silver. It is harder to tell on the top picture. A gold would have more of a brown/green color instead.

Thanks! JJ’s colored patch is a lot more purple....... with a hint of murky blue/green

Hmm, then maybe she is a gold. I would look for pictures of golds. I only have a silver so not much help.
Her wing patch is more blue but the thing that worries me is that she is so brown..... when you look up Gold WH you get a replica of JJ....... she has the browning fading on her back and head.
Anyways thanks for the help.

I had some of each! Here's pics

honey my gold phase hen had a greenish brown speculum, her darkest markings were only dark brown no black whatsoever.

hannah my silver phase hen had vibrant blues and greens, sometimes purple too I think. Lots of pretty black markings and she was fawn colored as most welshies should be.

from left to right: Wuza (my drake), Honey (gold), and Hannah (silver).

Thank you! I really appreciate you responding. I‘m thinking I’ve got two silvers:) JJ definitely has black in her feather markings. Also I’m guessing Luna isn’t a “ purebred“ ( or least standard Welshie coloring) since she is pretty much all white with the feather marks towards her head and base of tail...... By the way, your Welsh Harlequins are gorgeous! Such pretty birds:love

Thank you, they were so beautiful and I miss them! But I'll be getting more soon.

I would agree that you have two silvers. Those feathers around the head don't look breed standard but when breeding for egg production some people don't care if there's a few wonky color patches (Metzer, Murray McMurray, and Cackle all have weird stuff like that:he), just keep progeny that display proper characteristics and you'll end up with beautiful welshies.
