Golden 300's/White Layer Thread

Good, because I'm totally using this thread's low post count as an excuse to spam baby pictures Today they got to take a little bath while I changed out their bedding (for the second time today, haha) - they are too cute when they try to zoom underneath each other in an inch of water

Oh. My. Goodness! They are too sweet! I can't wait to see how well the 300's lay compared to my White Layer. She hasn't started yet but this will be a fun comparison once they all start.

We have had 7 Golden hens since May 2015 they lay almost an egg a day until January thru March then we got average 5 eggs a day. We do not use lights to promote eggs they free range on a half acre.They are great! We have since added 3 Harlequins someone was giving away when we already had 5 Harlequins on order.

I forgot to mention the male Golden 300's can be very aggressive ours grabbed our male Buff Goose by the front of his neck. The male Golden did not survive that mistake.

The peeps are here! The package was delayed and didn't arrive until Thursday, and we ended upl losing three of the ducklings But all four of the 'golden girls' made it safely, and boy are they big and energetic! I still haven't decided on names yet though 0_0

Oh no It wouldn't be the first I've heard of a drake picking a fight he couldn't win... poor thing. I can't imagine I'll be buying any boys soon, though - no more room for ducklings, still too much of a weenie to raise meat birds haha.

Does anyone have any advice for introducing new ducklings to the brooder? The replacements from Metzer will be here this week. They'll only be a week younger, but the older girls are already noticeably bigger than they were five days ago and I'm worried they'll pick on the newbies.

We have 1 Golden 300 drake and 1 White Layer drake (along with 4 White Layer hens and 4 Golden 300 hens) and one day they really went at it. The white drake would chase the Golden 300 drake whenever he saw him. After a while the Golden 300 started fighting back. Usually they free-range all day, so we put the in their run and separated them for one day and they haven't went at it again (yet). Fortunately neither was injured/killed.


I have found that overall the White Layers are a lot more friendly and quiet. The Goldens are the smart, sassy ones in my flock

Here's some pictures of our Golden 300's and White Layers from January (~5 months old, they had just started laying eggs). We have 5 of each breed (1 drake and 4 hens).

Gorgeous! It looks like someduck is ready for her close-up XD

Does anyone have any older 300s? I know that all ducks slow down (or cease) laying as they get older, but with this breed I'm wondering how soon/steep the drop is. We have our four (1 runner 3 buff) girls for pest control and entertainment as well as eggs, and they are all about two years old. We're getting about one egg a day (as many as three, but that's unusual). Anyone have experience here?

Seven days left on my duckling countdown!

My golden layer is five years old and she still gives me an egg nearly every day.
