Golden campines.

Okay, so does anybody know for sure how to make your own chamois campine color? I've heard people on here mention crossing white leghorns with golden campines. If this is so, who should be the male and who the female? Also, would I want to look for good leghorn stock since that breed and the campine are fairly similar in type to my understanding, or look for positives that you would want for campines? I may make a thread about this just in case anybody else out there knows. Thanks

You could try crossing gold campiness with chamois friesians and then crossing the chicks if ther are no chamois back to the chamois parent and then start crossing the chamois chicks to each other and to the campine and keep crossing back

All you want from the leghorn is the dominant white gene. You have to realize that the leghorn under the white is actually a barred/black ( like a barred rock) bird that carries the silver gene. Some even carry mottling.

1. gold campine male x female leghorn= F1 females that are white ( some will have black specs in feathers) with gold on head and hackles. The amount of gold will vary.

2. Take the F1 females with the best body type etc and back cross to a male golden campine= F2 with different colors ( black, black with spangles on a red breast, white, white with reddish heads, etc)

3. Back cross the best looking white/autosomal barred F2 female (chamois) with a male campine= F3 that should contain some good looking chamois males and females

You are must hatch 20 or more in the second cross. If you only hatch a few chicks you most likely will not get females to use in the third cross.

You have to use a male campine over a female leghorn. You will not get the same results if you use the wrong males and females. And always back cross female offspring to a male campine for the same reason.

I'm getting 5 Golden Campine's chicks tomorrow from a local breeder. I've read up on them a little bit but they don't seem to be too common. They are all a month old. I'll be posting pics once I get them. I'm so excited.
