A friend was getting rid of her birds and gave me this 3 year old rooster. He's gentle and handsome. She got him from an amish feed store and remembered that as a chick he was a different color than the girls. I think he's one of those hatchery hybrids, maybe a golden comet? Can anyone help? White legs, single comb (frostbite at some point) and the undersides of his wings are white. He is SO nice and gentle. Hens love him.

I really don't think he's crossbred in a backyard way as this place orders from large hatcheries like other sellers. But I'm not at all familiar with the hybrid "breeds" that hatcheries are putting out there.

Yes, there's a lot of hatcheries that cross random chickens and call them a breed.

He has a Maran head, neck and comb, maybe a maran + ?

Now I may be wrong as I am certainly no expert, but to my knowledge all hybrids have single, not rose or pea, combs. He looks like he has Wyandotte/Dominique or Barred Rock parentage at least, something with barred or cuckoo patterning. Any idea on weight? He is a good lookin feller, interesting colors.
