Either way.. we love the big dummy... so it doesnt matter much to us. I know that some folks do get upset about stuff like that though.. but i'm not into breeds enough to care either way..
He is such a good head roo! I just spent a couple of hundred of bucks bringing him to the vet for bumble foot, cause we like him so much..

I'd get more eggs from them in a heartbeat though cause i think hes so pretty.

I think you are right...if you look at some of the hatchery catalogues---Meyer comes to mind---they specify if the Merans are clean of feather legged. From that I would presume that they come in both kinds. And seems most Cuckoo Merans I see are clean legged are they not?

Did I read somewhere that Marans have different standards in France than they do in the US, French having feathered shanks, US not? Hmmm...

must be a Marans afficianado out there somewhere who can clear up that question.

I have 2 GCM (one roo & one pullet) My roo looks just like Redhens pic. Both mine have very pink legs and don't have any feathers on their legs. My friend bought the eggs from pasofino...

Missi

Redhen, your roo is gorgeous!! I can't wait till mine gets a bit bigger. He was picked on and so it just now getting his tail feathers back!!

I believe that's some silly myth people who don't breed Marans or just run hatchery stock have made up. The American standard is copied right off the French Standard. We are trying our best to follow it.

A Marans without feathered shanks is a big no-no to serious breeders.

The clean legged are the English MArans, English peoplr tend to want to breed out feather on the legs of their chickens. The feathered legged ones are the orginal french Marans.
