Gonna buy a log splitter

I want one but which one? They have one at TSC my neighbor has the same one & has had it for 5 years. He has no heat in his house only heats with wood so he splits alot of wood. Need some help here wood splitters ain't cheap but I needs one. Thanks 7L

My husband and I heat predonimantly with wood in the winter also. We (more like he) had been splitting by hand. We bought a Troy Built 27 ton from Lowes and it was the best investment we have ever made! At age 56 (he) and 47 (myself), the log splitter certainly added years to our lives!

I love my log splitter!

We have a MTD 21 ton horizontal/vertical splitter that is about 10 years old now. We split about 5 or 6 cords of wood a year. I do most of the splitting by myself & I am a 5'2", 54 year old woman. Our splitter is very easy to use. We split mainly oak, maple and poplar that is from our own property. I set the splitter up near the coops so I can throw the grubs I find in the wood to the chickens ~ they love it when I split wood. They also get any wood that has termites or ants to clean up.

I got a log splitter for my birthday the year my husband forgot and offered me anything I wanted to make up for it.

how does a hydrolic one work? does it need gas?

A small gas engine powers the hydraulics. A lever controls a slow moving wedge that splits the logs.

i'll stick with the human powered log splitters. i'v seen small ones you pump with your foot.
