Gonna go donate some blood. how about you?

i wish i could donate! but, they wont let me because of my brain malformation, they say that i cant spare any blood LOL good luck to all that do, you are wonderful!

I mentioned "fibbing" as a conversational topic, not a suggestion to do so although some of the questions are not black and white and could honestly be answered more than one way.

When one gives blood, one must not lie,
a mistake could cause one to die,
Precautions must be firm and high,
to protect our blood supply.

A healthy person should choose to give,
A pos, B Neg, O negative,
I'd give, It's not that I am lazy,
It's just that I'm a little ... dang... nothing rhymes with schizophrenic...

I have O- blood and I donate as much of it as I am able. I have problems keeping my iron at an acceptable level even with supplements. I have donated 3 gallons so far, and just this evening I got a call begging for more. Due to a blood clotting problem I am on coumadin therapy for the rest of my life, but my doctor gave the blood center the okay for me to donate anyway. My doctor says blood donation is a good way to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Our blood center has GREAT snacks and juice. There's even a lady who brings in platters of home made cookies and brownies on Fridays!

Funny Story

I was at a business Expo and they were giving away T-Shirts, the only one they had in my size was a "I donate Blood" T-Shirt, with out realizing it I wore it to the doctors the next day and when I got there the nurse said "Good for you! Everyone should donate blood!" before I had a chance to correct her she says "Right in here, miss" and puts me in the exam room and shuts the door. Next the doctor comes in and says "Wow! donating blood already! There should be more young adults like you" He kept talking about the first time he donated blood and a story about a kid he knew that would be dead if it wasn't for the people who donated blood. I finally gave up trying to tell him.

LOL I won't make that T-Shirt mistake again

That's how I feel! I am as healthy as it gets, thank God. Don't even take aspirin ever, nada, nothing. But have travelled and lived overseas and somehow I must have mad cow disease, or so it seems, because they will take my husbands blood, and he is on all kinds of meds, but moi? Not good enough. And that? Just makes me mad.
(but I did not know there was a 'statue of limitation' on that, so maybe I should try again, some day)

O+ reporting in....just donated this morning.

They were advertising they needed O+ of the radio this last week & they had the blood-van in front of Target (very convenient!) this morning, sooooooooooo. Done! Piece of cake!

Don't you hate that! I'm in the same category because I spent 2 semesters studying abroad. You'd think that we would have either been diagnosed with the disease already (if we, in fact, had it) or that they would have come up with a way to test the blood for it. I haven't been in Europe for 17 years, but I still can't donate. What I have always wondered is this: are Europeans allowed to donate blood in their own countries, where the Mad Cow Disease originated? Surely people there must have surgery and transfusions like the rest of the world, so why can Europeans donate blood but Americans who lived in Europe for a brief time are forever banned?
