Gonna lay an egg or what?

So my Dandy hatched 4/18/18. I've had many Indian runners, but they always spent some time outside and some time inside. Dandy is the first one I've had strictly inside. I have a box for her where she gets clean linens daily, but nothing resembling a nest. Will this affect her laying? Some of my ducks didn't lay for almost a year, but some after just a few months. Is there any way to tell when they're gonna lay?

I don’t think there is anyway to to tell precisely when they’ll lay. Mating is usually a precursor. They’ll lay where they want, but you can give her a nesting box.

Well, mating is out, she's an only child, and her box is fairly large and fancy and she seems to really like it. I don't think I'll be giving her a second bedroom. That's just a little TOO bougie. I'm just worried she'll get egg bound and I won't catch it or something cuz it's her first egg.

When she gets ready to lay she'll probably make a nest out of what ever is in the box does she have a special blanket she like that she can move around? My Runners were mating at 4 months and laying at 4.5 months old. Best you can do for Dany is make sure she is getting a good dose of calcium each day and exercise which can be taking her out to walk around in the yard But you want her muscles strong for pushing out those eggs.

LOL she runs all over the house, but not so much in the yard. She gets plenty of exercise. I don't really have anything that isn't flat and tied down in her box. (She likes to peck at edges until they end up in her water, next thing you know, no water) So she has stuff but nothing she can move around. Is it OK to give her the extra calcium before she starts to lay eggs?

Put out some oyster shell near where you feed her that way if she needs it she’ll use it .

I think she will lay in her box. If that is her bed then she will lay there. Just leave some oyster shell around the house in little bowls or by her food. She will know when to eat it. Ducks usually lay around 4-5 months so that can give you an idea.

Being a very new duck mom, I’m just curious is a duck ok all alone ? And inside 24/7? Isn’t it better for the ducks health to get outside and eat a little grass and bugs? And sunshine ?

Can they live without another duck ? Are they not flock animals?

I’m curious and wanting your duck to be as healthy as possible, good luck
