Just save you and your roomate the pain of loosing a pet and build a secure coop/pen for your chickens. It's a win win situtation and all will be good.

I can tell you from personal experience with many crummy high school jobs that womens restrooms are almost without exclusion nastier than mens. They get TP everywhere....


Edit: Interesting fact I heard one day on NPR while driving to work, 2 cats left unchecked in the wild with ample food supply can produce roughly 477,000 offspring in 7 years time....assume the strays in your area only have a 10% chance of having that kind of a successful life and you can see the problem you have on your hands.

I dont really apose to Killing cats believe me I use to shoot em for even thinking about coming on the home property line. however. thats my property and on my land I can do as I please reguardless who is renting what from me. If I ever had a roommate like you I would one probably show a side of me that I have managed to keep locked away since my little girl was born. anyhow with that being said. You are the chicken Owner they it is your soul responsibility to keep your chicks safe. If you think you can just run around and kill every last predator there is killing your chicks. Please look for a local BYC member to donate your flock to so they can live the happy wonderful life that you intended for them to live. OR get of your lazy bum stop typing stupid post and go build a Coop and run for your chicks. Believe me it cost 0 dollars to build a secure coop. CHeck your local craiglist free section. Find free pallets Free wood or even a free fence (old tore down fence piled in the back yard please remove all for free Must take all)

this was a 100% free coopmight not look the best but the tops are covered and there actual coop is reinforced with 1/2 inch hardware cloth. Ignore the buff brahma roo he slid in the unfinished side trying to pose for the camera.

Heres my rooster Pen again also with a net roof that stretches the whole 27 feet not to mentionn its own little personal security system.

32 cats? Sounds like your roomie could be considered a hoarder. If that is whats going on it is a pretty serious issue that wouldn't be solved by "removing" the cats. The roomie will most likely just allow another stray to come in and take the place of the cat that is gone. I saw you called animal control, did you tell the the severity of the issue? It seems even if they are not be taking in strays, they may be interested in a hoarder/animal cruelty situation.

Regardless of what happens to the roomie and the cats, you need to build a pen. The cats will kill your birds, that's what cats do. Check Craig's list, many times you can find good size rabbit cages for cheap. You could use one as a temp solution until you build a run.
