Those are awesome shots of the whole process. Question for you. What do you have those eggs resting in? Is that paper towel tubes or what? INGENIOUS!!!

I think the best example of a blood ring and how it happens is this. The chick is forming and blood is pulsing through the veins. Then, for whatever reason, the chick dies, all the blood stops pulsing through the existing veins and basically falls to the bottom most part of the vein pool. Therefore leaving a ring around the middle where the yolk sac is.
