Good caged bird for an apartment--update, bad news :(

I've been wanting to move for years, but have been "financially challenged" for most of my adult life, so have few choices in where I can live, especially now that I'm unemployed.

I've lived here for 17 years and pets have been allowed and disallowed off and on most of the time I have lived here. I had a pet fish the first couple of years I was here, but haven't had anything, since. At times I was told I could have fish or a bird, then I was told I couldn't, then I was told I could.

Apparently, this management company doesn't allow pets in any of their other buildings, either.

I asked about even temporarily, like in case I need to do a duck rescue over a weekend and they said that might, also, be a bad thing, too. So, you can't even have anyone's pet or animal stay with you even temporarily.

What a shame!! I used to like in Lakeside/El Cajon area of Ca, so many rules out there! I wish you could move! Did you see if they could give you an exception since you have been there for so long? You must be a good tenant?Maybe tell them to let you know asap if things change and you could have a bird?

I could check, but it sounds like they're very strict about this. Unless it's in my lease, I don't think I could have one while this management company runs the place. Even if it was in my lease, I would have had to have the bird before the new company took over.

I thought the days of not allowing small pets in apartments were over. I can understand the restrictions on dogs, especially in my building with the way it's designed, but indoor pets should be OK. It's an old building and we don't have drapes, but blinds. My carpet is old, too.

That is so wrong! I'm so sorry!Keep your eye out for another place when you get going again, move! I will pray that they will see that this need to be changed!

It's probably for the best, I think I might be too allergic, anyway. I think I'm going to insist on getting tested for bird dander allergies before I get any type of bird, especially an indoor one. I don't have insurance right now.

I really want to keep ducks, so I want to move to a place where I can do that. When they're outside, I don't seem to have allergy problems. I probably will have a reaction when I clean their houses, but not likely when they're outside. I might be allergic to geese, though.
