I plan on getting some new chickens soon, as I only have 2 hens, and I was wondering what some good breeds are.

Right now I have a Buff Orpington and a Silver-Penciled Plymouth Rock.

I'm generally looking for:
- Breeds that work with my current hens
- Will tolerate the weather; it gets very hot in summer (90 degrees+), and cold in winter (50 degrees and less)
- Good layers
- Docile
- Not super flighty

I was already wondering about Amber Whites, because they seem to lay good, and their white feathers will help keep them cooler in summer (right?).

And btw I'm a noob to the site but I've had 2 different flocks of chickens.

Welcom to BYC.

Some good chicks are Red Sexlinks.Their hardy, and nice.Bantams are also nice, but if your hens are rough then Bantams may never be happy.

I've seen Black Sexlinks, they look good.

No, my rooster is too big for Bantams.

I have an EE hen that I am really starting to like. Not only is she sweet natured, she is laying very nice largish (between medium and large) eggs, almost every day. She lays a very faint pinkish egg. Though she is muffed, she is hiding white earlobes under the muff.

Yup. Mine has a very full beard. I have always called the beards muffs.

Yes, I had a Barred Rock but she died from a skunk or something like that. :(

EE's? What are those?
