Thanks, NellaBean.
I have a dog and even a CAT (his brother was a half-feral jack-rabbit killer) that I don't trust near my bunny. So, the big bunny pen is in the basement (I am down there many times a day) and the dog & cats are upstairs. We can't let the cats in the basement anyway because you have to go through the garage to get to it. I won't let the kitties into the garage at all. The dog isn't allowed in the basement for a variety of reasons, including the fact that she's old & would have a hard time with the steps. So, this works well for us.
Rabbit had an entire bedroom to himself at his last home. The family that gifted me with him shut him in his dog carrier crate (converted to three levels) only at night and when they were away for extended periods. Since he is a senior bunny, I didn't feel he'd adapt well to life in a small cage & immediately set about building something fairly inexpensive.
8 2x3's, plus some scraps, a partial roll of fencing, and 2 area rugs, & assorted hardware (screws, mostly)
I did staple the wire to the frame. It went faster that way.
