Good Dog With Birds

That is a great picture!

I have a ex-Police GSD, he kinda just sits there watching the birds never moves but will keep them in the garden, not once has he barked at them. think he likes to keep them safe for me.... i hope!

Animals can be really strange, at my Mum and Dads they have had some ducks move in on there pond, they wonder around and get fed each day, the cat walks around with them though... which is the weirdest thing.

I threw some bread onto his tummy, and waited for the roos to grab it - they were still deciding on the wisdom of trying when Toby woke up and ate it himself, LOL.

I thought this was a post asking abotu what breed is good for hunting them i was going to say Cockers!

(but im bias)!

Now that i see its' for what one can be TRUSTED with them...I really think it ALL depends on the individual dog. If i raised my cocker pups up with the birds, and taught them to leave them be, they wouldnt want to grab and bring them back to me like they do now haha. Iknow many cockers (not all) to be cat killers, however, my two love my cats, and were raised up with them. My dads heeler tried heeling our mini horse we used to have until we scolded her for doing so, after taht she quietly watched from afar, and she grew up around chickens and other animals so she never bothered them. ALl just depends.

However the one who said that small breeds dont have it in them mostly. Uh....most small breeds were bred to hunt so you betcha they have it in them...it takes some good OB to make sure they don't.

We have a Sheltie that is pretty good with our chickens. We're trying to train her to watch the chickens during the day. We have a big problem with hawks. He is not real great with cats. He likes to chase them, but is not mean. Our 150lb German Shepard loves to eat chickens!!!!!!

Our boarder collie is the best with the chickens. She loves to help us round them up when we need to. Even if someone pecks her she just backs away a little and goes right back to the job at hand. We couldn't ask for a better "chicken" dog.
The 2 blue heelers run the poor girls ragged. We don't trust the jack russel. He would kill one in a heartbeat. The poor mini poodle ( a 9 lb rescue ) is terrified and the heads for the hills at the first cluck.
