what is a good feed for meat quail? please let me know what you feed yours. i belive i am getting japanese quail but i don't know yet. does it matter what type of quail i am getting for the type of feed?-thanks

I feed Nature Wise Meatbird feed from TSC. It's 22% but my quail are heavy, healthy and it lasts longer than anything else I've tried. Even 30%.
i will be keeping them till they are 12 weeks of age so will this make them overweight in that time period?

I am on the other end of the spectrum and am a fan of purina gamebird startena 30% protein, at least as youngsters/teenagers. My adults get a cut closer to 25% for sustainable gut health. If I were soley raising meat birds from egg to slaughter I would feed 30%. No need to wait until 12 weeks, though - they grow FAST on that mix.

If you want meat quail, you probably want Japanese, aka coturnix, quail. Every other domesticated variety I can think of is either too tiny or needs too much flying room and/or can't be kept in a group during breeding season.

By overweight you mean fat? No, they will not get fat on the MBF. 40 lb. bag lasts me longer than the 30% game bird feed in 50 lb. bag.
