Candled today. I had one infertile. And another with a bubbly air cell... But while preparing to build my second coop, I was clearing some land with a small dozer... I crushed a guineas nest. She abandoned the nest of 75 eggs sadly... And I took two of the undamaged eggs and put them in the bator for fun's sake! I felt awful for the poor guinea though. She was frantic!

Not sure I posted this pic properly. I candled on Friday night. How awesome is this process! I loved seeing the little wiggly embryos!

I know exactly what you mean!!! I've now got 12 turkeys that are all progressing well. I was previously worried about No.12 but he was just further up in the shell and I couldn't see much. When I candled again last night, he was right on target with the other 11

I have five chicken eggs progressing well too

Poor mama!

I have a question regarding candling. I have some blue eggs that seemed weird when I candled last Friday night. Lets see if I can describe it: One half of the egg was totally dark. The length of the egg. Not the pointy end or the big end, but the entire length of the egg. It was only in the blue ones...could it be the breed? Are they quitters? I put a question mark on then and put them back in the bator. They didn't small bad. I have search the forum and don't see any pics that look similar. Any input?

Should they be taking up that much room on day 8? I will candle again on day 14. Just worrying about the little chicks

I must have missed your post! I set my eggs the day after you. This is my 1st attempt at hatching eggs. I started with 28. Broke one, and removed 8 eggs because they were not fertile. I candled for the 1st time on the 9th day. Candled again today and they all are active and the air cells look good (in comparison to all researched photos).

I was a nervous wreck the 1st time I candled! Afraid of dropping them or hurting them somehow. Not as apprehensive today, though. My incubator fluctuates though and makes me nervous. I've been watching it like a hawk and losing sleep. My family thinks I am nuts these days

After this hatch (hopefully 'hatch') is over, I won't incubate again until I've made some changes and get this thing operating better. I am learning as I go!

The eggs I'm hatching are from Black Sex Link hens and rooster. I'll be happy with any I get!
