I can't tell if it's still bleeding or not, all's I can see is part of a foot, and it moves slowly up and down, like a chest does when breathing. Today is day 21, have 7 chicks out raising a ruckus in there with him. At first when I saw how weirdly it was cracked, I honestly thought 1 of them had actually managed to crack the egg open, then I realized that the crack was outwards (pushed open), not crushed inwards. I'm silently freaking out, my son would have hysterics if I do. So I'm walking back and forth between here and the bator every minute or so. I don't dare put any flour in there with him, can't see his head, I'd probably smother him. I guess I will wait and see what happens. It all happened within like 10 minutes, crack then kicked off.

Great, now the hooligans have pushed him sideways, now I can't see in there. Little goobers.

I've had quite a few like that, I just wait about 6 hrs...make sure the chick is still making noises...when there is that much blood, that's when I wait, but waiting causes it to dry out inside, so..like I said, I wait, then I chip away a very small amount of shell at a time, with a tooth pick...sideways, put it back, wait another half hr..ship a bit more, and so on, until I've got about half the egg shell off...it's pretty easy, you can put a wet sponge in the bator while you are doing this, helps keep things softer for the chick to work with. When you see the membrane, don't peel where you see blood vessels. Like I said, I've done many, and they have worked out fine. Just remember to stop if you start any bleeding. Let the chick have a chance to work some on it's own, take your time..it needs to build it's strength up.

Carrie -Id wait seriously. Ive had that happen a few times and everytime Ive interveined it wasnt a good outcome-the blood you see is probably not as much as you think-let it stop bleeding on its own-it might only need another hour or two and will hatch out just fine. Or it may be in the am--how long has it been like that?

Nat, it's been maybe 40 minutes now. I got to see his beak peeking out, so I know he's at least getting air. The majority seem to say wait, so that's what I'm doing. It looked like a ton of blood when it first happened. I totally freaked then, and it took forever to load the pics and post them. I was so scared he was gonna drown in his own blood or bleed to death while I was posting. Now that I can see his beak, I'm not quite so freaked out.

Ah 40 minutes is nothing! I bet his yolk sac isn't even fully absorbed so best not to touch the little fluffy but till tomorrow. Happy hatching! It can be so nerve wracking!

take a deep breath count to ten and get a cup of something hot and sugery helps with shock and panic

Is this your first hatch? LOL. I remember being this nervous. Wait, if you open the bator now you may kill anyone else attempting to hatch. I'd give him till tomorrow afternoon.
