Hello everybody! I have a little serama hen who I believe to be two (She has had two batches of chicks before I adopted her). She does not and will eat her food w/out raw eggs in it. I do water it down a lot but what should I do to break that habit? I also would like to get some food that isn't commercial so what would be my best bet for making my own food for her. I currently am feeding her and my other hens Nuterna which I love. Thank you guys so much for helping!

Best to feed her a formulated ration as mixing your own ration often includes large batches of various ingredients which would get stale before you could use it all. Put out dry and she will eat when she's hungry. Probably doesn't need much.

Scratch and Peck Feeds

It is the best stuff I’ve ever gotten my birds. I also like their grubs (for extra protein) or mealworms are good too (I get the non-GMO kind on Amazon.com). She may be needing extra protein and that’s why she’s wanting the raw egg.

You can also ferment this feed in small amounts or just soak it overnight to make it wet if she’s wanting the wet consistency.

I also get one of those cheapie metal suet bird feeders from Tractor Supply and put tomatoes, carrots, etc... in there for my seramas to pick at for greens. You can just hook it to the inside of the cage. It works perfect.

You can also (as a treat on a hot day) squish up frozen fruit in water.

Just make sure you check which fruits and veggies are chicken safe first.

We love our seramas. I hope this helps.
