That way... you can always add more chickens later with no problems as to additional building... just need to add to the run. 2 boxes should be ok for the small # you have in mind of coure... but looking to the future now saves work later. Wow, I LOVE this design! Is there any chance you could post the sketchup file from your more recent versions or do you not want to share?
I'm new to BYC (and chickens in general!) and am trying to put together a good plan in sketchup myself but my skills are really lacking. It took me like 3 hours to figure out how to get my existing fence to show up correctly!

I can't get the link you posted on the first page to load.

Hi Everyone,

We moved from the city to the country about 2 years ago and have about 1/2 an acre, now we have decided to take the plunge into the world of chickens!

We are wanting to raise 10-12 Barred Rock chickens for eggs and eventually meat, and have been studying the forum for a bit now trying to find a coop design. We think we have come up with one that we think will work but we are completely green about the subject and would really appreciate any advice you all may have for us. The reason we posted to this forum was because we too used Google Sketchup for our drawing, we are planning on posting some pictures, but we are new and it won't let us. So we will post some later if any one would like to see.

The frame construction is made from 2x4's and 2x2's and 1/2" ply for the floor.The finished coop will have 3 nesting boxes. Will 3 be enough for 10-12 ladies?
We wanted to be able to move the coop and run fairly easy without having to hire a crane

or put supports in place to do so. What we came up with is a detachable 4' run that when in place will be attached with 3 lag bolts one on each upright post and one in the middle on the top.
We are planning to put vents in on each panel up above the nesting boxes and a window will open for ventilation and light as well. The top of the 4' run will lift up for easy access to the run for cleaning. There will also be a gate at the rear under the coop to tend to food and water.
The back 2' to the right of the nesting boxes will be for storage with a door on the end of the coop. Also the on the back side there will be a large door for coop clean out.

the dimensions are as follows:

Over all length = 12'
Width = 4'
Coop = 4'x6'
Rear storage = 2'x4'

This will give the ladies 2 sqft inside the coop and 4 sqft each in the run, Is this enough?

Thats about all I can think of right now, any feedback would be much appreciated.

I think we may be sharing a brain! My goodness, your plan is so similar to mine that your Google sketch work has really helped me to visualize my sad little paper sketches!

I'm sloping the roof over the nest boxes too but I think there's enough of an overhang figured in on mine to cover the nest boxes for anything but driving rain and I can always get them from the people door in the worst weather. I have the 3 roost poles at equal 30" heights (theoretically, to cut down on squabbles) and spaced from one of the people doors 12"/18/18 to make cleaning under the roosts an easier reach from the door and to provide more open floor space by the opposite people door for the food/water zone. I have two 24" square double-hung windows salvaged from a remodel to mount in the people doors. I'm going with four nest boxes to be hung outside rather than 2 (I'm getting 10 pullets) and mounted 12" above floor height. I'm putting a hop board in front of the nests (which has the added effect of a shorter trip up to the roosts) and giving the boxes oval openings to darken the space a little and for the cute factor of "egg" shaped entrances. I'd also like to add a couple of hinged plexi "windows" -- one on each end of the roosts -- that I can open in the summer for additional ventilation and to catch the cooler breezes from the north (lake) side on hot days.
