Last week I received a shipped rooster and noticed one of his eyes had some goopy discharge from it. He did come from a bachelor pen so he could have scraped it there or in transit. I warm compressed it and cleaned it up then started using Terramiyacin ointment in it. It has improved a bit but is still periodically discharging.

His other eye is perfect and no discharge from his nostrils. He's otherwise healthy but will remain in quarantine for several more weeks, pending this clears up.

Any recommendations on treatment? Aside from taking him to my vet I'm out of ideas.

Thanks for any help!

I had a rooster with a goopy eye and did the same thing as you. I tried to put the ointment on twice a day. it took several days but it improved and finally went away. it is good that there is no discharge from his nose or other eye.

Yeah, I was worried at first thinking it might be a respiratory infection but luckily it just appears to be an injury kind of thing.

You did the ointment 2x day? Right now I'm just doing 1x...I think I will start doing morning and night.

He'll be on quarantine for at least another month after this goes away. I dont want to take any chances.

Thanks again!

My chicken Doc had me use tylan 50 injectable in the eye. Just put a drop in 1 or 2 times a day. It helps to clean it up. Thats if its just goopy eye and nothing else. If respitory then inject in the breast or neck 3-5 days. Good luck!
