Goose (and gander) breed suggestions

They sure are. I for one would love to hear about your adventures with a House Goose someday! If I can make it work, I am CERTAIN you could

Karson, my Chinese Goose, loves to be held. We go on walks in the country roads, he is a show off I might add, follows me everywhere, talks to me in vocal array, and is very good with people. I have a little gosling that I rescued from a lady who was going to dump him in a dumpster and he is loveable too. He enjoys sitting on your lap just as Karson did when young. I have always been afraid of geese until now. My two are pure joy and they live separate for now and possibly forever. My flock of hens live with my gosling.

They sound adorable, I think your older goose Karson will accept your gosling it just takes time. But be careful leaving your baby in with chickens they are the worse for cannibalism, if they begin pecking they won't stop.

Thank you for the heads-up. :) I am so blessed that my girls see the gosling as just a really odd creature that they simply leave alone. They pay him no mind thankfully. I'm also blessed in the sense that my girls are good to one another. I have seen other chickens and chicks get so terribly mutilated whereas my girls have never done such things. I pray over my flock so I think that helps too.

That is great news. What breed of hens do you have?

I pray over my flock daily too.

I have had pilgrims and tufted romans in past, some tufted buff, and now I raise Shetlands and Super Africans. I would say the Super Africans are the most gentle. It generally true that lighter boned animals and birds are "more skiddish" (holds true with horses and dogs it seems).... But you have to spend bonding time with them as babies ... the ones I 'sat with a lot and took in and out of day yards are tamer .... and the ones I spent less time with are more skiddish... that said, some geese seem to get more aggressive towards human strangers if they are more bonded. ...And with geese the gandars seem more tame, and with Ducks , the females seem more tame....go figure.
