GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

You put food coloring on their vents and when the eggs come out, they care color coded. I imagine you could use yellow, red, blue. Then pre-mix: yellow and blue to make green, yellow + red = orange (not sure if this is a good one) red + blue = purple and if you mix all of them together it would make brown.

I would like to note that I've never actually done it,and I'm not sure how well it would work since when I think about it I think to myself: would it come off when they swim?what if it's drys when she lays would it still come off on the egg?

You can also try feeling between their pelvic bones? You can do it for ducks and chickens so I imagine it would work for geese too. Compare them all and the one with the most space/give would be your layer.

Thats not a bad idea for the coloring. I knew about the pelvic space guess i could do both. I will be out tomorrow evening with food coloring and cotton balls swabbing butts. I have 4 colors so ill start with the four i think might be laying then go from there.

That is a big difference, I don't have one of Missy's eggs from last year but I could tell right away these were larger. You'll have some nice eggs to decorate this year 8[unless you decide to hatch them all]

I havent decided if im going to hatch any this year. If i do i might set some mid March. It all depends on weather and how warm it is. I really havent gotten bit by the gosling bug yet so that might all change drastically lol I am going to make ornaments though. I have picked out colors all ready.

My first set of eggs has arrived! One has a detached air cell, but the other two seem fine for now. Clap your hands together for me and pray for a happy ending in 31 days! (One day for just sitting still after transit.)
