GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Sometimes you need to look at the hole picture so up in the left hand corner you can see Aflack sitting on her egg's in the brush and Bob sitting in the shade just waiting .....

Momma Goose ( her name ) has her two little goslings and any parent will understand this one the goslings are na-ing at her feathers and the funny part is normally Mamma don't let anyone mess up her feather due

What a sweet pic.

Another update, photo taken June 19 2014 approx. 11:30 Hrs this to date is the "Whole Family"

Now the bad news, yesterday we lost a little one. She looked fine was a little smaller then the rest, just figured she was the last born. But yesterday she started having trouble keeping up with the flock and by lunch time I found her on her back in the run, I took her into the house to the Frau, and within 15 minutes or so she went to sleep. Then this morning I found another freshly born gosling in the nest also gone.
I'm fearing that these may have been the ones taking to long to hatch and then when they do, their so exhausted they have a VERY difficult time. My momma's still have 11 eggs under them and all feel like they have something inside (very heavy), so I'm guessing there's either dead goslings or goslings struggling trying to get out.
So in the long run they will still end up most likely dead.

But I can't complain so far I have;
Merc 3.5 weeks old
4 sibs 2.5 weeks old
8 sibs 6 - 4 days old
So for the first time I feel my girls did really well. I applaud Lacy & Macy and of course Casey, if he was only poking for fun non of this could have happened.

Awww I'm so sorry for the bad news but, from my limited experience with geese you are doing really well! It's hard when you can't hatch/save them all though. Although, honestly, having tried to crack goose eggs for fritatta, I'm shocked that ANY of the little things can get out of them!

I love that you caught the gosling in mid-groom on Momma Goose. That's so sweet.

And it's so true that you have to look at the background. I don't take a whole lot of pictures because I'm too busy looking at it or can't capture the "pastoral scene" as it sould be caught. You did wonderfully, though.

Oh man, seminolewind those are just some brilliant pics. Especially the last close up with the water drops on the fuzz/bill!

(either you have a really good camera or your geese let you get far closer to them than mine ever do)

And I agree, I love all my birds but the geese are, by far, the most fascinating.

Eeyore, the camera is a Sony point and shoot I gor used on ebay. I always keep my elbows on my sides and exhale when shooting. I take a lot of pictures and delete down to the good ones. I can crop and play with brightness, etcetera , but this camera seems to need no editing. I zoom in so I don't have to get close. But I'm not the only one on here with awesome pictures, LOL
