GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I imagine baby pigeons look very similar to other birds when hatched, naked as a jay bird.

I probably have less experience but from that limited amount I can say they actually don't look like other birds. My scant experience is that they have a really nobbly, huge (in relation to their size) disturbing beak and feathers that just.... defy description. To say they're "patchy" would be kind.

I really like pigeons (people call them rats with wings but I've also had pet rats so I never viewed that as a pejorative) and I also subscribe to the notion that baby animals are nearly universally cute. But baby pigeons are.... not. I love the adults but the babies really are kind of horrifying. (Sorry, Iain Utah)

You are absolutely right.
I just had to Google it Because I thought "oh come on, it can't be that bad" but then I began to realize...those things look like that on purpose? Ack!

Eeyore describes it well. I have a couple of friends who hatch pigeons and they are always wanting me to hold one of their babies, so I've been up close and personal with quite a few. They are very freaky looking and even weirder to the touch. But after about a week or so, the beak recedes, they begin to get feathers, and are not so hideous. I'm not looking to get into hatching pigeons. I just thought the best way to guarantee my darling girl would get along with a companion was to let her hatch a baby. She seems happy to build a nest and try.

Now I really look forward to seeing some baby pigeons.

If Chloe hatches a baby, I will be sure to post pictures!

Now I have to go out and talk to mine about getting started on a family. Those are the cutest little things I have ever seen. Can you remember when your adults were that little?
Well 6 weeks ago mine were 2 days old now they look like giants. still have the baby talk and a little fuzz but that's about it. Oh and you won't need to say a thing come winter they'll know what to do.
