Sting and Lydia, in the pool, making woopie!!!!

I suspected he had a thing for Lydia, now I know. So, what next, is it too early for egg laying and nesting? I should probably get nesting stuff ready for them just in case?

Poor Pauline just stood there watching. Once they were finished Pauline got in the pool but everyone just ignored her. Hopefully her day will come as well.

Did you tell them it's wrong time of year? This isn't suppose to be happening till Jan. Oh wait it must be a Texas thing because Starfire has geese mating and laying eggs already.

Boy, did I get 2 lovies. I am so sure that "Ronald" would sit himself in my lap if I sat on the ground.
The ones I got as chicks are very attached to me. The two I got as adults had been stand-offish til lately, now they both have to come and get a chew or two in when the others are chewing me . I guess they felt that they were being left out of the fun.
It's funny how close and attached they get as long as you don't touch them.

That is what I thought, may be just a practice session, but sure looked like the real thing to me. Maybe because we have temps in the 90s and moving toward our Fall which is always mild and 70s and 80s. Our real Winter does not happen until Feb - Late March/Early April. Would their body clock be telling them to get the job done so the goslings would be ready for winter in March?

I would end up with seasonally challenged geese...still love them though no matter what.

Hi everyone.

I hope you and your furry/feathery friends are all well. We've had some highs and lows.
We lost a stunning young rooster to a badger a couple of months back. Had a nasty case of red mite leading us to rethink the whole coop. (Eugh! Itchy, crawly nasty critters! ) the coop is very much open plan until we find time to build separate roosts and nest boxes.
Our newly planted hedgerow is growing nicely. The chickens and geese love to camp out under it.
I finally named goose #2 and I'm fairly certain it's a male. Everybody, Bruce. Bruce, everybody. He's more evil than ever. He picks fights with the dogs on a daily basis and attacked my dad when he visited. Fortunately he was wearing bike leathers and dad didn't stand for his crap! Lol
Moose on the other hand is sweet and shy and let's Bruce deal with security issues!
At hardly 6 months old they have taken a shine to the wheelbarrows and Bruce defends them like his life depends on it. I caught Moose snuggled up in the long grass next to on this morning. Surely they couldn't be thinking about nesting already?

I took a couple of pics of the geese (both who seem to have been photobombed!) this morning. Despite his prickly temperament, Bruce is rather handsome don't you think?

Great to hear from you, sorry to hear about the down-sides of keeping birds, but wonderful to see hear how the geese are doing.
I can´t believe you called him Bruce. I always thought of it as Bruce, can´t remember if I referred to the name, but he looked like a Bruce, and it rhymes with Moose!

So, starting to nest? The females do play at it for a while. My youngsters started this behaviour months ago, as if they were playing 'dolls', but only now are they more serious about nesting. They´re now laying eggs which I´m giving away, as they´re so small. Next year will be better for them.

X2 Miss Henny Penny, the geese are gorgeous. Love the coloring on Bruce. He probably has Embden in him they can be cantankerous [ask me how I know] lol... Moose is adorable too of course I have a soft spot for Toulouse. Great to see all 3 of you. and very sorry about your roo. I have found the neem oil is great for killing mites and is safe to use around the flock.
