GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Wow, servpolice, what a menagerie you have! I bought in a gander to mix the blood here a bit, but I didn´t keep him as he also tried to muscle in on the sitting goose. Not as bad as yours though. Can you post a pic of the white greylags? I´d love to see them. Do they ever throw grey goslings?

Just witnessed at feed time, my toulouse gander flying 20ft in the air up hill all the way from the pond to the barn which is about 300 yrds in between. Didnt think this chubby butt could do that
Nice that he has the ability. One of mine once flew too far and ended up in the lane, so I had to go and get her in again. She never did it again. I think she frightened herself!
He´s a gorgeous-looking gander.

Do you give them a stuffed animal to cuddle with? also a non breakable mirror helps till they get some of their own to snuggle with.
Well.....I got the other eggs from the goose. Candled them just to see what was happening. one infertile, one liquid. Four very dark inside. OK, so if they were going to hatch, they should be showing signs by now. Out of curiosity, before chucking them, I opened one the air-sac end, and there....a live gosling, nowhere near due day...I reckon another few days yet! The other eggs looked the same, so I put tape on the one egg and popped it under a sitting chicken, put the other 3 back under the goose, got the smallest 2-week-old gosling from the recent batch and brought her up to keep the new one company until, and if, the other eggs hatch out. But, how odd that there are so many days between the goslings! I shut the goose in her pen as soon as she started sitting so that she wouldn´t have any interference, and there she stayed with her 7 eggs....just that she wasn´t very good at keeping them in at first, so I can only imagine that the other eggs started to develop a few days after. Still strange, though. Here they are together, the 2-wk-old pecks at the tiddler a bit, but at least it´s all goose language.

I put the mirror in to console the older one who will be missing siblings and mom. I´ve just put them outside in a run on the grass. It´s about 30°C in the shade, so Tiny one will be fine. Look at the size of the older one in comparison...just 2 and half weeks older! And she´s the smallest of her batch!

Thanks. Him and his mate are my first geese i ever gotten. Like the saying which came first the bird or the egg, for me it was the egg lol im hoping these two will give me goslings this coming season. I have 20 in all but these two are special.
This was really his third time attempting to do this each time he gets higher and higher lol i dont want to have to clip his wings but i will if i think hes going to go too far. My tufted roman goose has been trying to fly also its been monkey see monkey do.
