So happy to hear it's doing so well. More babies very exciting.

Well, exciting and worrying too! And I have to keep on my toes to keep up with where all the eggs are, farmed about!!! ( 3 with goose, 3 with duck, 1 with duck, 1 with chicken!) I´ve thought and thought about why there´s a dfference in age in the goslings. You know, I remember the gander sitting on the eggs quite a bit when she was half-way through her laying! It made me think of a post on here where someone´s tom turkey hatched out eggs. Maybe that´s it, he´d already got them going!? Two others I chucked, so maybe those were the other two in there that he´d started, but didn´t make it, and these now are the ones that SHE started brooding once I´d fenced her in alone. Makes sense to me. The one with the chicken should hatch tomorrow, I reckon, and I can hear noises in one that´s still under the goose, but no peeping yet. so maybe Sat or Sunday for that one, or even those ones!! I hope she´s better with the next ones, then I can put them all back in with her afterwards.....the plans of geese and men......

OK, so after 2 days of nothing much happening with the gosling that I´d broken the egg open, (it had broken the membrane inside) I took it away from the chicken today and started to take shell off. Well, that baby was ready! I think the membrane had dried a bit, so gosling wasn´t able to move, so I dampened the membrane and saw that the veins had almost gone. No visible yolk-sac either, so that baby was indeed ready. It pushed like crazy to et out, and there in the bottom of the shell was.....poop. I reckon it should have come out yesterday. Well, it´s doing ok and the one that hatchedTuesday is really pleased to have a mate. (even though he finds it a bit boring!)

Although, I have been taking it down to the others with me, so it cold see other geese. All the other non-sitting geese would come to visit...2 ganders, 3 geese, 2 bigger goslings and the 6 little ones! The Tiny one was not phased, just stood between my feet, as if to say "my mom´s bigger than yours". And when I walked away a bit, Tiny one would follow me and the others would go on their way. Happened each time. I won´t do it tomorrow, as the Tiniest one won´t be up to it, but looks good so far.
Of the 2 eggs left (one was chucked, no good) I can hear another gosling in one egg chipping away, but no pipping yet, and no cheaps, so ok there, hopefully will pip tomorrow and I´ll hear cheaps. And the other egg, I think I can hear movement, it´s very faint. I reckon tomorrow I may hear more, hopefully the other two goslings will hatch ok, and who knows if the goose will accept them.

Funny, I put the Tiny one in the run to visit his mum still on the nest and she´s not so worried about him today, she was just curious. So, who knows she may be better with the next one that hatches...hope so anyway!

Wow that's great you got another and in the nick of time too, okay so did you take gigantic back down to it's sibs now that Tiny has a room mate of comparable size? Sure hope you get more. and mama will take all her babies when done. love the picture, cute caption too.

Yes, she went back down yesterday after a day and a night, as she was a little stressed without her siblings and called quite a lot. Tiny one thinks I´m his mum, so wasn´t too stressed without her, just sat next to the mirror. Now he´s sitting next to little bro! All quiet.........wonderful! Will up-date when I have more news of the others.....

p.s. I did a bit of reading-up about problems with hatching on these threads, it was very helpful, so I just knew what to do. Without it I wouldn´t have known. I may have lost the gosling. I found Iain Utah´s advice very useful among others, a very interesting read.....see, we never know when we´ve written something ages back that it may be of use at some time. Thanks Iain (Janet if I remember right?)

Well we just went to check on the chickens and cause Suzie in her special place laying! We are up to 4 eggs now. It is Autumn here now and the winters do get cold but not harsh and I do have her set up in a side room of our barn so she is sheltered (though she can come and go from there as she pleases) There is electric run to the barn and it wouldn't be a problem to put a heat lamp if we needed to. I don't mind giving a little extra feed as needed. We sprout our own fodder for our birds and other livestock, which is quite economical. I definitely am hearing the mating triumph calling

Yes, she went back down yesterday after a day and a night, as she was a little stressed without her siblings and called quite a lot. Tiny one thinks I´m his mum, so wasn´t too stressed without her, just sat next to the mirror. Now he´s sitting next to little bro! All quiet.........wonderful! The little female that I borrowed was very happy to be back, yes. Big goose-party!

As regards "like pilgrims", I have a trio of pilgrim-type. I was told on these threads that they´re not cotton-patch as they don´t have really pink bills, but I know they´re also not really pilgrim as they have only one lobe. I think they´re also smaller than the pilgrim. Probably of the same ancestry as the other breeds, but here they just kept the name "common"! Anyway, they´re auto-sexing. so the 6 siblings are easy to tell.

The older 2 that I have are from pied crosses(parents were pied) mated with an auto-sexing gander, but they´ve thrown what APPEARS (so that no-one can tell me off for thinking you get auto-sexing birds from crossing breeds) to be auto-sexing females, but only time will tell. I´m intrigued, as it´s difficult here to know what the lineage is of most of the birds here, and I find it interesting that a "white" bred to a pied produces grey.

Now, these latest goslings that I have here are the result of auto-sexing gander with a different pied, but these look to be mostly grey with just some white on the wings. They still have the grey bills, so again, only time will tell with these last two, and the ones still due to hatch. Maybe they´re just reverting back to a more natural colour. Waffling. Bored you to death? Sorry.
