GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I am the crazy bird lady actually crazy any animal lady, but mostly birds then horses. Used to be reversed but was almost crippled from an accident, anyways Hubby is into anything outdoors. My Mom likes watching the geese on the pond. Same here when it comes to the fuzzy babies though, everyone gets involved.
That´s a bit similar to us here...my hubby is outdoors most of the time, my mum still lives in England, but she comes over each year and loves to see the geese. And especially the ducks. I bought the ducks for her. She loves the little chicks too, I always try to have some little fluffies here when she comes. She fell in love with one chick that we helped survive. She wanted me to keep it, but it grew into a big cock so it got moved on for breeding big fat eating chickens!
A nasty riding accident, you poor thing. Glad you´re recovered. I´ve fallen a few times, but never anything serious. I used to be into horses, I think they are so beautiful, but after 6 years of trying to overcome a very strong allergy to them, it only got worse and I had to stop as it was affecting my breathing! I still can´t go within smelling-distance of them! I used to breed rabbits and guinea-pigs, but was very allergic to them also, had to wear a surgical mask to deal with them, that was stupid, so stopped that too. I´m allergic to my 6 dogs, 5 cats, and BIRD FEATHERS TOO, but it´s not as bad.... I manage with it all being outdoors, which is something much easier to do here than in England. My neighbour has 5 horses, so I enjoy them from a distance. I can´t imagine being without these little critters, they´re such fun.

I am still leaning toward hatching some Emu eggs if i can find some lol

I bought a bunch last year & only hatched the ones that I got locally here. I will never do shipped Emu eggs again

I loved hatching them, and the first site of my 1st Emu I was all Shrieks and happy dance

My flock got to have some pool water today, i heard Sammy give the victory yell ran to the door and it was him and one of my Muscovy ducks, She was a willing participant too.

If my eggs are fertile I would love to swap, as well.

I love the colored sebbies ! I have a flock of the smooth breasted painted sebbies because I prefer them and are my fave. But I love the curly breasted too.

Here´s my latest chick: A little gold (partridge) brahma. Only two hatched from a dozen eggs I bought and the other one died. It´s one expensive chick!
What an adorable Fluffy butt! Hope you get some more eggs to hatch, I would love to send you some if you weren't so far away !

Brahmas are my FAVORITE Chicken besides my Ohikis. The only 2 breeds of chicken I keep. Here are my Brahma 2 Roos

Here is a young pic of my Golden Lemon Cuckoo Brahma Roo

He is much bigger now, gotta get a new pic of him. I just love the docile nature, the broadness, and size of the Brahmas. I have 2 hens that I just love, but looking to expand my Brahma girls. They just started laying me 2 eggs a day. So I have these 2 roos over my 2 Brahma hens, they're young in this pic too but here they are

I love horses too, grew up with them, and looking at adding 2 to our home next year, when the timing is right and have everything set up. I have been missing them.
I couldn't imagine being allergic to any animal ~

That does stink! I had bought 2 dozen Crele polish eggs, and one hatched! Eggs cost me almost $100 bucks! And the one that hatched was nothing more than a gold laced Polish. I had to order chicks quickly from a hatchery so she wouldn't be alone. But I love her.
But what a cute Brahma!

Rivergoddess, it sounds great that you are getting 2. I have a TWH now, she's a delight. Can't imagine life without a horse.

I got my hubby a pair of sebbies for Christmas, now he's become obsessed with learning all he can about geese. They are 3 years old, but really too a liking to him. But keep their distance from me. But I'll have my own this spring.

Well it happens, eh? It´s always a risk getting them bought in. The dozen eggs I had were all fertile, but the chicks died off at various stages of development. So I don´t know if it was some contamination at the place that had the chickens, or whether my ducks contaminated them. At least I have one to show for it! Now I just have to wait until this one grows to see if it´s got the right comb and stuff! They´re a bit hit-and-miss here with their breeding, anything with a fluffy leg is called a brahma! But I´m fairly confident with this little one, it looks right.
Here´s a pic of one of my hens with home-grown chicks keeping look-out!

Here´s another one, she got hurt by the cockbird and had a large wound on her side, but it´s healing very well and she´s doing ok. I´ll not keep her with the cock anymore now, so she´s moved house and gone to live with the layers.
