GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

That´s a bit similar to us here...my hubby is outdoors most of the time, my mum still lives in England, but she comes over each year and loves to see the geese.  And especially the ducks.  I bought the ducks for her. She loves the little chicks too,  I always try to have some little fluffies here when she comes.  She fell in love with one chick that we helped survive.  She wanted me to keep it, but it grew into a big cock so it got moved on for breeding big fat eating chickens!
A nasty riding accident, you poor thing.   Glad you´re recovered.   I´ve fallen a few times, but never anything serious.  I used to be into horses, I think they are so beautiful, but after 6 years of trying to overcome a very strong allergy to them, it only got worse and I had to stop as it was affecting my breathing!  I still can´t go within smelling-distance of them!   I used to breed rabbits and guinea-pigs, but was very allergic to them also, had to wear a surgical mask to deal with them, that was stupid, so stopped that too. I´m allergic to my 6 dogs, 5 cats, and BIRD FEATHERS TOO, but it´s not as bad.... I manage with it all being outdoors, which is something much easier to do here than in England.  My neighbour has 5 horses, so I enjoy them from a distance.  I can´t imagine being without these little critters, they´re such fun.

I couldnt be without my animals either, it wouldnt be the same if for some reason i had to give them all up.
Thank goodness im only allergic to one animal and thats cats but i still like them and have one.
Ive had 3 horses to throw me off but my last one was an 1100 lb mare that flipped backwards on top of me, broken ribs near my sternum and black from the waist down, my family said it sounded like someone dropped a watermelon off a building when we hit the ground. I still ride but have a pinched nerve in my hip that causes my leg to go numb if im in the saddle too long.

RG i am thinking of searching for some local emu eggs, im pretty sure that the guy i bought my geese from has them. He has all kinds of unusual birds. If not im just going to run an ad, i know there are a few farms with them in other counties.
Are your emus still nice? Once they got older?

Wow! You got away with that one, then! Your poor family, they must have been in shock! A pinched nerve isn´t much, is it, when you think how you could have been...
When we moved to Brazil from England, I re-homed my dogs as it wouldn´t have been fair to bring them here at the time, they were greyhounds and whippets, and although we have the space now, for the first year here we lived in São Paulo. Crazy place. They went to caring homes, they were fine. But I missed having them, so while we were yet in São Paulo, I got a couple of small-breed dogs.

A Maltese and a yorkie. Then we moved to the countryside and the number of pets has kept growing!

I love greyhounds i have been thinking of adopting one from the local track. My cousin did and the dog was a great pet for years. I like whippets also but they arent as common.
You sound like me with the growing pet numbers. Right now my numbers are low compared to what i used to have. Im building back up a little at a time though. I have to go slow or hubby freaks out lol

Bantams are spunky little things, aren´t they? I used to have some, but the cock was so frisky that he wanted to mate with all my chickens and I didn´t want to have half-bantam everythings here, so he moved house.
Most folks around here have mixed-indian game breeds, very tough and the dogs learn to respect them, especially when there are chicks around.
My little yorkie went near a chicken with chicks once and ended up running for her life squealing like a piglet! She gave chickens a very wide berth after that!
That's hilarious! I have 2 game bantams and they are awesome chickens one is a roo one of my first chickens actually he came here as a less than day old. they spend most of their time in the woods they fly really good too which is a plus when you want to be outside of the fence instead of inside. Those 2 and my frizzle and cochin bantam roo are my only bantams left a hawk killed one of my best bantam cochins about a month ago. Broke my heart . All the rest are LF. Bantams are very spunky, this lil Frizzle is queen of the roost here.

My cousin has adopted many Greyhounds over the years and they always seem so mellow. They are house dogs too.

I had two retired greyhounds and two whippets, they were all great dogs. Whippets are more intelligent than greyhounds, I have to say, but the greyhounds are lovely good-natured dogs, only ask for a quick walk around, enough space to do a five-minute tear-about, then a big space to lie down. Someone to be kind and gentle. Food. Sorted.
I even had one that got along with our cat and our tiny yorkshire terrier....some of them are ok with small critters, especially the ones that don´t make the grade, sometimes they don´t have a strong enough desire to get the bunny so are ok with cats.. sometimes.

You just need a big enough house! They like to lie all across the floor, so you have to pick your way around them. Or, they´ll lie all across your sofa, and you have to sit on the floor!

The amazing thing about greyhounds is their fantastic nature in general. Even after being very badly treated by some previous owners, they seem to always have the capacity to trust and show such gentleness. They´re quite amazing. I used to live near a big park, also a beach, so I´d take my dogs there (responsibly, of course) and let them go for a run, they loved it. 10 minutes and the greyhounds were pooped! The whippets had endless energy, but were lovely calm dogs. I now have some mixed mutts that weren´t wanted as pups, one of them is crossed with a spring! She can jump to some amazing heights!

They are very nice. My cousins greyhound looked like a deer, solid blonde color. Always well behaved until a rabbit would hop into the garden, ears would prick forward, eyes go wide and me screaming 'Run Bunny Runnnnnn!' It was always too late. He would always catch them that's why he was retired so young he caught the bunny on the track.

Oh I know about the floor space being taken up by very large grey hounds, she had beds for them in her den it was wall to wall. I like the pic of them laying on the sofa my daughter use to have big dogs and they would take up the whole sofa and everyone would have to look else where for seating. To me that wasn't funny.

We have a mixed breed that might have grey hound in her she can run like the wind. although she doesn't look the least bit like one.
