GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Brazil ! imagine you having an african goose! you would have a new breed and when it has goslings it will give you a challange to find out the sexes

Daisey meadow that gosling looks really nice! i wouldent mind getting one of those! And are you going to hatch babies this year?!

I plan to let the girls hatch out whatever they want to this year. I don't have any africans at all, just the one halfrican, so I can't guarantee that any will look like him. ;)

I'll just see what I get with the variety that I have. One is a seb-tufted roman, but he has zero curly feathers, even though his siblings were curly. So every hatch will be a surprise.

haha, I already have a challenge.....I have 11 7-month-old goslings from an auto-sexing gander and mixed-breed geese, if you remember them, and I´m watching them to see if I can guess what they are. Some have just started the little screech, so funny. I can´t always tell who just did it, it´s like they´re playing a game with me.
But I´m going to think about an African...very tempting. I know a man who may have some.

New to raising geese and this forum, so I could not figure out how to ask concerning my bizarre goose love triangle.

I was watching the white Chinese gander (a fairly young gander) try to bred another young white Chinese goose, when a second goose jumped in between and mounted the first goose as if to drown her. Otherwise, the geese seem to get along fine, although the second goose is clearly the alpha in the pack. There is a brown Chinese who has already mated and is sitting on a clutch of eggs at the moment.

1. Will mounting by the second goose prevent the first goose from mating or even laying eggs, (Maybe I only saw one episode, but will they bred anyway),
2. Do I need to put her in a second pen with another gander if I want to get some eggs?

For those that have Giant Dewlap Toulouse geese.

I love my fatties ! Not a mean bone in their soggy bottoms

Lets see at the end of the week how they are settled ! I would love to see your baby white africans (i can say that hundreds of times)
I might have some White Africans hatching in April

Nothing like a week like this to make me feel like an utter and complete farming noob! I swear, I do have some idea what I'm doing. Really, I do.

Well one thing Sebastopols did not appeal to us. No particular reason but they are not on top of mine or DH's list for geese. Both of us are drawn to the Giant Dewlap Toulouse. I just want to be sure I am not getting a breed that is not compatible or dangeroh to my family.

I have the smooth breasted sebbies, I reallly like them alot ~ but after I get my Dewlaps est. and get a trio of white africans, I will probally let them go at the end of the season

I think I can get to Holderread in less than half an hour of driving. Never been, though. Maybe someday...

I know my girlie Eye

drove to Holdereads last year and picked up some ducks.

I had just milk goats, Rhode Island Reds, cats and bunnies when we lived there. I do not think you can visit Holderread. It is closed to the public

I believe they are not "technically" not open to the public ~ I mean could you imagine getting anything done if people were always stopping by???? But she did get to go there and meet them ans see the place

Utah pretty birds ! Can't wait to hatch some goosies

I will know by this weekend how my eggs will be developing

Well went to Auction and was CRAZY !!! A friend bought me 12 ~ 2loose eggs, and then another friend bought 9 Embden eggs that she put in my bator ....

NOW someone brought in 36 DOZEN Chinese Goose eggs!!! My friend (auctioneer) bought the remaining 15 dozen @ $3 dozen and sent them home with me to set in my Master Bator!

So I decided to set 50 and will set another 75 in a couple days ~ I have the room to set them ~ BUT I DO NOT want them all hatching at the same time
Could you imagine the cuteness .... I mean craziness

Ever Brooded just a dozen goslings?
