GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I have been having goose eggs disappear from the nest under the apple tree lately. I'll check the nest, there will be one egg, then later the same day the egg is gone. I have suspected the dogs. But first thing this morning there was one egg in the nest. The dogs were in the house. I let out the ducks and geese, went down to the barn to do the rest of the chores, came back 1/2 hour later, and the egg was gone. I checked the other nest (which I thought belonged to my white embden) only to find 2 toulouse geese tending to it. I'm wondering whether they are stealing the eggs and rolling them across the yard to the other stolen nest. The guys set up a trail cam, so I'm hoping it got pics of the culprit, whoever he - or she! - is....

Finally got some pics of nests and geese! Chilling on the hillside...

Here are some of the nests. I would totally step on them if I didn't see the girls actually tending them. Can barely see on egg in each, at that. The first and third ones actually have another nest behind the main (pictured) nest.

Here is the rouen hen on what I think is a muscovy nest.

And this was the rest of my week. Maybe not goose, but since I've whined to you patient friends, I thought I'd share here. Goose purists, feel free to ignore.

Baby goat was 2 months later than expected.

Pigs have been soaking up mud and sun.

Has anyone ever successfully incubated goose eggs in one of the Styrofoam Incubators? If so, could I use the auto-egg turner or would that not turn the eggs far enough?

they make an egg Turner specifically for goose eggs. You would not be able to use the duck/chicken egg turner, the holes are too small and not in the right position for goose eggs. Goose eggs must be incubated on their sides, the chicken/duck egg Turner keeps them in the pointy side down position.
