GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I thought I'd give an update on Snow, my white african goose that was having egg laying problems. It's been almost a week since she was turned back outside with her group and she is doing great.

I was going through my camera card and remembered I snapped this cool picture of her while penned up in house when she got sick. Never knew heavy breeds of geese could perch.

Ah, this would be a good one for 'what´s this goose thinking?' thread. She looks like she´s saying; Mum, when can I go out to play?

That is such a sweet pic.

Serv i have a Question for you.
Does the stripes on the necks of the brown chinese and african ganders narrow down at the base of the neck before it touches the back? My ganders does and my goose's is the same width from head to back.

In african geese their stripe is a lot more noticable then chinese espically when the stripe toaches the beak because african feathers are lighter then chinese at the breast and neck area

On my 3 eggs that were due to hatch they piped and did not go very far and just stayed in the shell. So Mom goose here took over throughout the day and night. I started chipping the shell away every couple hours so we did not get any bleeding. The one did start a bit so put it back and came back a couple hours later and took more off. It took me all day and all night to help the two goslings hatch. Both are grey Sebastopol's...
So here the two are hatched April 13th.

On Sunday the 3rd egg finally started to pip with a small crack in the sell. This gosling if I had not helped it would have died in the shell because it was so weak... So opened the shell so the gosling could breath. As the day went on I just kept going in and peeling more off and got down to where there was just enough left to cover the yolk sack. After awhile the gosling did pull out of the shell. But had yolk still out so I put warm wet paper towels around the baby to cover the yolk sack until baby absorbed.
This gosling was just so listless I was afraid it was not going to make it.
Now here is the third grey gosling I am proud to show off now. Had to tape the legs because too weak to get up on it's own. But when I taped them legs together we got up and walked!

Here is goslings number 3 from that hatch.

Here are the three together.
