GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

So I just raided the bushes and took the eggs out of an often-visited, but never-brooded goose nest. Out of the 16 eggs (!) upon candling, I found 8 with detached air sacs and 2 with what I would call "loose" air sacs. There was at least one with a tiny air sac, and one air sac I couldn't find at all. All my geese are not even a year old, so this is their first season. Do I have a defective goose or is it a young goose problem? I'm going to try to incubate and see what happens. I've seen others have good luck with detached air sacs, so it could work for me, too, if I'm careful?

Painted geese? I´ve not heard of them... I´m intrigued. What are they developed from? And please pardon my ignorance, but what does "ancona" of goose breeds mean?
No worries ! Thats what a forum is for

A painted goose is a cross creating a white "base" with random saddles / patches / spots ~ TOO FUN!

I also have hatched Anconas for the past 2 years, and are also just like the painted only they are purebred breed.

SO everytime a duckling hatches its a surprise baby.

They do not fly, friendly, lay lots of pretty eggs, and are fun to color fiddle with.

I think I may have to ask Utah to send me some of her Ancona duck eggs to hatch!

I think she means Ancona ducks and their appearance.

Yeppers ! Thanks for answering, I try to get on here as much as I can, but is a busy busy hatching springtime

So here are my latest two little girls (vent sexed). Hoping to get a guess as to possible breed combo. See my signature line for the geese I have for possible combos. In this pic, girl on left is 12 days old, the one on the right with the black stripe on top of her bill is 10 days old. Thanks! (left girl had some feathers stick to membrane, which are starting to grow back in now)

Like this, then. I got this from an old thread on here. But aren´t they all males?

They are adorable.

Nobody has a guess as to breed?

The spotted one is a Saddleback, maybe pomeranian or a mix of a dark breed with a white. The other has a little bit of african or chinese, going by the bill. Possibly crossed with embden, it looks as though it will be a really light gray maybe even gray speckeled with white or a gray pied? Time will tell. How old are they? Do either of them have blue eyes?

left gosling is 12 days old, right gosling (with black on top of bill) is 10 days old. Their eyes are not blue, but they're not very dark, either.

I have the following females:

Embden, Embden/Chinese, Toulouse, Toulouse/Chinese

And the following males:

Embden, Embden/Chinese, Embden/African, Toulouse, Toulouse/Chinese, Sebastopol/Tufted Roman

This is my first season of my own goslings, so I don't know what to expect at all.
