GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I'm thinking about breeding my pair of Embden geese but I don't know what the odds are that they're brother and sister or related in any way. I ordered them from Purely Poultry and they have always been happy and healthy. Just don't want to hatch any inbred goslings! Any advice??

Dear experts,
Greetings from San Antonio, TX. I find myself in a bit of a dilemma regarding breeding my American Buffs. I have three ABs; 2 males and one female. They are 6 months old. My dilemma is the following. One male AB is very nice looking, large and graceful, but he is very flighty and noisy (not the docile and gentle AB that is usually described). My other male is also large and good looking, but has either Twisted Wing Tip or Angle Wing (both wings). This male is very docile, calm and not flighty at all (demeanor that is generally described for ABs). So, despite the extensive literature review I have conducted, it appears that the extensive writings on the cause and difference between Angel Wing and Twisted Wing Tip is inconclusive. While I would very much like to breed the more calmer of the ABs instead of the flighty and nervousy one, I am concerned with passing the Angel Wing or Twisted Wing Tip gene. Is it a recessive gene (assuming that it is a genetic trait)?
I appreciate any advice.

I thought twisted wing tip only happened to Sebbies? never heard of any other breed with it. But just asking does moms personality come into play when gosling are hatched, seems both parents would be important. but I' pretty sure the verdict is still out on if angel wing is genetic or protein problem. Can you post pics of the gander with the wing problems? Did you try to correct at an early age? To me personality is very important but sometimes after hatch can play into how a gosling grows up and personality come about too. Stress, diet? I wonder? Not saying you didn't raise your gosling up right just asking questions out loud. How is the personality of your goose?

It depends on what you are doing with the goslings. If You are raising goslings for meat go with the calmer gander. If you are going to sell the offspring I might go with the flighty better looking gander especially if your goose is calm.

Good gosh! I thought geese just honk . But mine seem to yell and scream and moan and screech all day. The strangest noises. They also look like they play games, like they will all jump up for nothing, and run to another area flapping their wings. Really goofy.

Mine do that, just sit there and suddenly jump up, run around and generally make fools of themselves. Sort of like someone goosed the goose.

Also when they are all in the pool then one of them will start swimming round and round and freak the other 3 out they jump out then the last one will jump out all have their wings spread then there they go all 4 back in to start over. What would we do without them. Ducks do this too but on a much smaller scale. lol
