WWFF Update (weird water fowl family)
My goose finally started to sit on Friday, a week exactly after the gander started to sit. Now they are both sitting together. She shoves him to the side and sits on most of the eggs, but he muscles his way back in and ends up sitting on a couple of them. I've finally seen the gander get up to eat and drink this Sunday, it may very well have been his first time up all week. It's pretty funny to watch them egg snatch as soon as the other gets off the nest, they both want to sit on all of the eggs. We ended up with 13 eggs in the nest, I am going to candle them this Friday to see if any are growing and to toss out all the extras. I have a feeling over half of them aren't fertile since the gander has been sitting all week.
They are really tolerant of the ducks being around them. The drake stands on top of them and pecks at their heads, or he'll stick his head under them I'm assuming to look at the eggs. The duck will walk over the top of them too or I even watched her putting straw on top of the female goose. But the duck just started laying herself this weekend, so I don't know if she was just feeling extra maternal? The geese don't even care about any of it, I guess it takes a village to raise goose eggs! LOL
I gave them all a different splash pond, the ducks seem more animated and normal now, I'm guessing they didn't like the last one. Everybody seems to like this one better. The side are a little shorter, they could all get in the last one, but maybe it was more difficult than they would have liked?
