Goose Housing for Bed Time

Thanks for the heads up. I'll cut that yard and bring her there. Its bigger than her pen and has the grass so I thought she might like it. I have our pool next to this garden so I figured she would like to have more room and hang out.

Dolly is doing fine. She is growing like a weed. I will be building her a new house because she has outgrwon the large dog house she stays in at night. I have to admit I am so happy I got her. I was skeptical at first to have a goose but I have come to really like her. We are bonding more now which I think is cool. She has allowed me to get closer and closer to her withought a fuss.

She is making this new sound much like a whine or cry but I am sure nothing is wrong. It's very new so I guess thats why I see it as different. No way to explain it but as a cry or whine. I hear her doing it when she doesn't see me around. Funny when she sees me come out the house she does this really loud honk. I guess she knows me huh?

I have considered getting another but just haven't done it. I figured they would need more room for two. I don't know. For now its Dolly, my chickens and two dogs so that keeps me happy and busy.
I like this picture of your goose. You can see the knob coming in. Pretty colored too.
Since you are going to let her or him go into the garden area after you mow it first look it over for any sharp objects, nails, screws, glass, ect. Geese will pick things up like that and eat them...
They love roto rutting into the ground and making holes.
Every time my husband goes around and fills all the holes up the geese will make new holes or re dig up the ones he fills. They get called many nasty names by him!!!

Sorry I took so long to write back.

Me and Dolly are doing just fine. For the last three days I have been building her a new house. She just out grew that big dog house she was in. I hope to finish tomorrow and will post pics. She does some hard core fussing with me but she eats oats out my hand. I never thought I would see that day. lol. After reading about that I got some and she loves it. I have a hard time getting her to eat her feed now. She is so spoiled.

I wanted to ask can she just eat oats anyway? I thought not but figured I would ask.

I did have two incidents whre she was not happy with other people. She bit an friend of ours and she bit my wife. The friend got over it but the wife...well thats another story. lol. She simply does not like anyone else. At least I'm not getting chased or bit. lol.

I still have egtting another on my mind.

Well thats my "goose gossip".

Hi Charles good to hear back from you. On the oats you can mix it into her feed. During the summer months and throughout the winter I mix 50% Blue Seal Home Finisher and 50% oats and they love it! Just a thought for you.

Did you not know she is talking to you not fussing at you. Remember right now you are the only male figure in her life and she has to tell you how she wants her new home made... Until you get her a mate she will keep talking with you. Now if you keep getting lots of talk from her she is just letting you know she has an eye on you and what you are doing. Plus if you are talking to her they do talk back you know!

She is actually chasing other people away from you because as far as she see's it you are her's and they need to keep away from you.

Well I never would have figured that I would have a "goose girlfriend". LoL. I have been working in and around her for sometime now. She is still squeamish at times but overall we have bonded. I talk at her or should I say "honk" at her. I feel silly but laugh at it none the less.

I tell you I can clearly see the difference between how she acts with me and with other people. For others she puts that head down and makes this ungodly yelp. Kinda funny to me. She surely lets me know when someone else is around. I see now what people meant when they said they were like guard dogs.

Tonight she is in her new home. It's not much but way more than she had. It's not completely done but secure enough for her to stay in. basic building about 4'x6'.

I have a few questions. I have a concrete block floor which will have pine shavings or hay for the floor. Do you put food or water in there with them? I have found that she turned it all over in the dog house. I want her to be sure of her needs. Interesting but I have grown fond of having this type pet. This is all very new to me.

Thanks for all the heads up. I appreciate it.

One more thing please. I looked for the "Blue Seal Home Finisher" and I can't find it. Is it under another name or something? I have been using "Nutrena-Country Feeds-Chick Starter. I mix that with the oats. Is this good?

Have you ask the store or feed store if they have it? If not and they do no carry it or can not get it, yes you can use Nutrena but she is too old for the chick starter. She needs all flock Nutrena for adults. Then you can mix 50% All flock and 50% cleaned whole oats.
