Goose Housing for Bed Time

The dark brown stripe was the sign for me. Cwalden are you sure that Dolly is a girl? Was she vent or feather sexed?
Are you talking about the 2 toned head? That was what threw me. Maybe from a different angle she would look more like an African or Chinese than in the pose she's in.

Awww man now I have no idea what your talking about. Vent or feather sexed? Hmm-LOL. I have no idea. I was told it was a female.

Ok I had to go read about it. http://www.ehow.com/about_5437247_difference-between-male-female-geese.html

Now I have to do more homework. Geez...LOL.

What is "feather sexed"? I saw a video on youe tube about the venting. Oh lord can I do this now that the goose is older?

I'll take advice here. Man what if Dolly is a guy...LOL.

Okay now full view. and what if Dolly is a guy? How old? Knob on top of bill looks fairly small right now, another way to tell. I'll get 8 over here she has Chinese. Did you get any more geese? Even after looking at 8's pics of her Chinese I'm still not sure if Dolly is Brown Chinese or African they look so much alike to me.

Feather sexing for geese means pulling a feather or two and sending them off to be genetically analyzed to determine gender. Others know where to do this. I only asked about the gender as you would not want 2 ganders and one goose. I don't know enough about Africans and Chinese to tell the difference. Hopefully an expert on those breeds will be able to answer ?'s about breed and gender.

I got Dolly in Apr 2013. The guy had no idea how old she was when I got her. Dolly is my first so I'm learning here. I will be getting more. Maybe one or two.

I found a link to a place that does the DNA Feather Sexing :

Dolly looks like just like my African geese. I have 2 both females, I thought one was make because she was a bit larger and her knob is more prominent than my other goose so I thought I had a gander and a goose but they both started laying last spring! I didn't care what sex they were.
I keep them in a large dog house, looks more like a child's playhouse. I put a solar light inside at night so when locking them up at night it's not so dark and scary for them.
On getting more geese... Yes I would say to get your goose a friend. I don't know about getting a pair because that pair may not get along with yours. I don't have expirrence with more than 2 geese.
Mine have brought me do much happiness. They come running to me whenever I go outside and when I get home from work. I've read not to hand feed them but I always have and they love it when I hand pick them some grass to eat it, and they are standing right in the grass but i think they think it tastes better when I pick it.. lol.

Best of luck with yours!

Hello! First off very nice looking goose! I think its an African. Its about the same age as my oldest goslings. Compared to mine its neck looks thicker and its not standing as up right as mine do when watching something interesting. I would guess gander because of the knob size already.
If it wasnt for skeptics arguing with me over it id tell you how to tell BUT i know ill catch heck for it. I had an oldtimer tell me how to sex mine without venting and i was skeptical at first until i tried it on mine. both on the ones i knew were ganders and geese and the younger ones.
